This pub has 'location, location'. The view from our bedroom windows (room number 5) was wonderful. The river Barle goes rushing by, swallows swoop outside the window, a view also of the huge picture postcard garden stocked with beautiful flowers and beautifully tended. The garden would make a wonderful backdrop for wedding photos.
Plenty of parking, the premises spotless inside and out. Don't be put off by the carpet on the stairs which appears to be old. When you get to your bedroom the light and the view is a wonderful surprise. Our room was a little small, a couple of handles were missing off the drawers and there were no hooks in the en-suite shower/toilet. These are small details and Debs the new landlady of only 10 days will I think address them as soon as possible. A hairdryer and a hospitality tray are provided. Good shower, but make sure you turn it past the 'off'' otherwise it will continue to drip water.
Dinner is lovely. Really good menu with a wide choice, lovely desserts and really cheap. The local people are very friendly and chatty in the bar.
The pub is located a bit outside of Dulverton so you really need a car if you're visiting here. The area around is beautiful, the nights are peaceful and we slept well in the very comfortable bed. The cooked breakfast which my partner had, met with his approval. In fact it kept him going for most of the day. Freshly made coffee added to his enjoyment. For those who have a dog, we noticed that many people brought their dog into the bar which all added to the friendly atmosphere of the place.

Title sums it up! The setting is perfect, the pub is full of character and the locals are very friendly. The landlord was chatty and welcoming. The food was old fashioned pub food which came in good portions for a reasonable price. I had baked cod with prawns in salsa, my husband had sea bass with almond butter. The real ale was well kept and there was a good selection of wine.
The room was well worth £80.00 we paid. Well done the anchor. we will definately be back!

We have just returned from a weekend at the hotel, and it was lovely, it is in a very beautiful spot where you can take some lovely walks. The food is lovely expecially the breakfasts, and the evening starter of goats cheese pea puree and panchetta. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with little extras like biscuits, hairdryer, shampoo and soap. Well worth a visit, looking forward to going back again.

My wife and I have just returned from a weekend at this pub with our dog. The property is in a great setting next to the river Exe which was one of the reasons we booked it. The experience though did not match up to the surroundings. Firstly, we had not been told that building works were taking place so there was quite a lot of banging going on. The service was very slow even though there was no shortage of staff. Nobody seemed to have a defined role so they just seemed to stand around.
The bedroom was reasonably clean just felt a bit cramped, however the shower cubicle in the en-suite bathroom,(including an old non slip rubber mat), was covered in mould and the outside of the cubicle was very dirty.
The dining room was dusty and the menu very poor. Everything seemed to be tasteless and delivered in a very amateur way. We would have gone out to eat on our second evening but there was nowhere close by, so we thought a safe choice would be steak. Wrong!! My wife's was overcooked and they forgot her chips, while mine was cold and undercooked. They took mine back to replace but the same one came back and seemed to have been microwaved. When we were discussing the disappointing food we were asked by a member of staff not to discuss such things in front of guests. The wine menu lacked any imagination and only one type of wine was available by the glass.
Nothing was much better at breakfast, the first morning no marmalade and no staff to ask as they served the greasy breakfast then disappeared. There also didn't seem to be any choice of breakfast just the full english.
We paid £35 pppn plus £5 pn for the dog. It was certainly a dog friendly place which is good for us as responsible owners but it drives you mad when people can't control there little yappy dogs and they constantly bark.
