“DO NOT STAY HERE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

we stayed at this b+b on the weekend, well i say b+b more like some ones dirty old pub that had a few rooms upstairs. We where greeted on friday night was a pub full of old drunk rowdy people shouting "i wouldnt stay here, dont go upstairs" that the owner was laughing about.... didnt find it very funny. The owner then said they had double booked most of the rooms for that weekend because it was a local event on (to try and get as much money as possible) so we should have stayed in a room, but he said he had converted his flat for the weekend as he had so many people staying there.... went through a door (with no lock) to a bathroom (extremely dirty) again with no lock, to a tiny door to our room again with no locks. I have travelled all around the world and stayed in alot of places but this room was by far the worst b+b/hotel room to date. The beds where tiny and very uncomfortable, wardrobes full of his stuff. one of the beds where pushed up against an unlocked door that kept banging against the bed, so we opened it to find someones living room. We finaly got to bed to then be woken up at 12 - 2am by the people in the living room being very loud.
The owner couldnt be bothered to get up on saturday morning to cook breakfast so we had to have cereal. saturday we walked in to the pub, someone different had come up to us and asked who we where and why we where there?! explained we had stayed the night before so we went to our room. we where in our room for 10 minutes and the guy came running in saying the fire alarm was going off, we couldnt here anything, so we found out none of the rooms have fire alarms and a little beep was coming from the system. im sure this isnt allowed??!
we then had enough, the owner came to try and fix our shower and we where told the small boiler supplied all 12 rooms so we would have to wait 30minutes or so to have a shower. it was now 10.30 and we had to be up at 6am. not happy.
our dirty cups of tea were still in the room, put onto the table with someone elses hair piled up in there!!!! and our beds wernt changed.
Was very glad to leave sunday. I have written such a long review because it was that bad. please for your own sake never stay at this "B+B" its really not worth the hassle. we spoke to 6 other guests who said the same.
DONT STAY HERE!!!

“Good value and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2009

Stayed for 3 nights. Landlord very friendly and attentive.
Good beer. Food good and plenty of it.
Bedroom large but slightly dark , noisey as on busy main road.

“dreadful service”

Stayed there whilst walking Offas Dyke path.
The rooms are fine, but the "manager" (barman really) has no idea about running a B&B, nor cares. There are (new) absent owners I gather. The very first thing on arrival (after walking 18 miles) was a blunt demand for payment in the midst of a noisy bar ("we've had people leave without paying"). No evening food is served on sundays , but breakfast was a shambles : Only cerial on offer was cornflakes , no fruit or yoghurt, nor herb teas (I dont think he knew what they were) and he tried to pass off Flora as butter.
Broken power socket and missing bedside lamp in the room. Very much just a drinking bar for the lads. Misleading website. Avoid. Try wonderful Bradford Arms a few doors down : excellent welcome from resident landlord.

“don't stay here !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2009

the rooms were untidy arrived friday and the room still had a newspaper with filled in crossword on the shelf .the shower was full of hairs (not ours) the beds are tiny and on the saturday night the staff stayed up drinking and making a noise until well after 2am needless to say next morning breakfast was nowhere to be seen as ALL the staff had slept in even after another guest had tripped the alarm system (this was at 8.30am) we left with not breakfast and very little sleep looking foreward to a clean shower when we go home !

“xmas dinner from hell !!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2008

please note we did not stay in the hotel, we only booked christmas dinner, but it was so awful i just had to express it.

with this being the first time we had ever eaten out for christmas we were looking forward to not having to do all the cooking and washing up that usualy goes with xmas dinner.
we were booked to sit at 12 noon, we arrived 5 mins early and all the doors were locked, and so us and 3 other families were stood out on the street in freezing cold peering through the windows trying to catch the attention of the people inside, not a good start.
we eventualy got to our table, were seated and drinks ordered,
the starters arrived quite quickly and as three of our party had soup they asked about bread rolls and got a stern no there arn't any. 1hour and 45 mins later and after many announcements of its on its way the main courses started to appear, two plates at a time, and not one plate of food had steam rising from it, once every one had their main dish we still had to wait 15 mins for the veg to come which had it been edible was no way enough for the number of people in our party, so by this time all food was cold (that was only warm to start with), one persons food (poultry) was so under cooked that im sure had they eaten it they would of had food poisoning.some items from the pre-ordered menu were not even given. several complaints were made not only by us but nothing was done, there was no explanations or appoligies, so having had enough we refused any more courses and refused to pay for the meal and we left and shall never return.
