“A fabulous place for events”

My husband and I chose this venue to celebrate his 50th together with 40 friends and family. We had drinks and canapes in The Gallery in the Mister Mill part of the hotel, followed by a sit down meal in the restaurant. All of us stayed the night and then after breakfast half of the party went on one of their suggested walks to return for lunch ( a previously arranged set menu ).
Amber, who helped us coordinate the event, was very helpful and willing and a pleasure to deal with. We thought the whole weekend went brilliantly ( not even the fire alarm going off in the middle of the night tarnished our view ! ) and our guests have all commented on how wonderful the place and food was ( both for dinner, breakfast and lunch ) - the only complaint was they had eaten too much !! . We took up one of the entertainment options ( a magician ) suggested to us when we enquire who was excellent . We had a fantastic weekend and it was money well spent. We would definitely recommend this venue for large parties or wedding. It has left us ( and our guests ) wanting to go back and looking for excused to throw a party !!!

“Expensive and limited menu”

We called in for lunch on spec. Ordered a drink and looked at the menu. Food looked v pricey - haddock & chips, £15.95 - and little choice, esp for vegetarians so decided to try elsewhere. Asked if there was a mistake when I had to pay £3 for a mineral water. Obviously, out of my class.

Dear Sir/Madam

In response to your review, we would like to suggest that perhaps it would be fairer on other establishments you visit in the future, that you review those which you dine in. To write a negative review for something you have not sampled would appear to be wholly unfair.

The Old Swan is privately owned and run as a gastro-inn. The menus offer lighter snacks such as homemade soup, sandwiches and salads for those looking for something light and full gastro-inn menus for lunch and dinner in our dining rooms. In addition to the normal menus, we also offer a blackboard of daily specials and both offer a choice of vegetarian options. The fish and chips is one of our most popular dishes. We use the very best ingredients which are well presented and come with homemade mushy peas and a side salad with a choice of dressing. We have an exceptionally good Chef and the Old Swan is already well-known for its great food.

As you will have seen, the historic inn and the adjoining mill have recently been fully restored and refurbished to create an intimate and boutique hotel. We feel are prices are no more expensive than any other hotel of this standard and do offer good value for the experience provided.

Yours sincerely
Ian Solkin

Just returned from a fabulous weekend at this lovely country hotel. Everything was great. Very comfortable room, friendly and attentive staff. Good food and wonderful surroundings. Cannot wait to visit again, especially in winter with glorious log fires and comfy chairs!

“A charming retreat in a traditional Cotswold setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

The January 2 nights for 1 offer brought this upmarket hotel within our price range and we were not disappointed, Decor, staff, food and facilities were all excellent. The Old Swan rooms are more individual and homely than those in the Minster Mill, and closer to the roaring log fires we appreciated after winter walks. Complimentary sloe gin also helped keep out the cold. Mobile phone reception is erratic, but we were allowed free use of a PC linked to a landline, so no real problem. Also the shower and bath controls in some bedrooms are quirky : when all else fails, read the instructions!

Room Tip: Dovecote is quiet and close to the back stairs leading to the hotel car park

“Excellent surprise birthday meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

My wife and I came here for my surprise birthday meal which she had arranged. It was an excellent meal, my wife said 'the best burger she had ate in a long time' the service from the staff was very good and they are all very friendly. We ate in the newly built dining room which is excellent and is very in keeping with the British Cotswold feel The Swan already has. We live relativly close to Minster and we both agree this is the best place to eat at an reasonable price. We will Definatly be returning and would like to also stay some time too.
