“great food & a warm welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We have eaten several times at 'The Cat', this weekend we met up with friends and stayed overnight. The atmosphere was good and the food great and of a standard that you'd expect from a much larger establishment. The portions are large and provide excellent value for money, you just need to make sure that you leave a little space for dessert, the triple ginger cheesecake and ice cream brulee are to die for. The rooms are large and very clean with plenty of lovely fresh towels. Breafast is a lovely experience with fresh fruit, cereals, loads of toast and a full English using local produce. Excellent! We'll definately be making this a regular venue.Well done to Carol, Jenny and their team.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 8 have great rooms

“Great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We have stopped off at the cat for a meal a few times.

The place is nothing special - it's just a wayside country pub that's a bit tired looking in places. It's clean enough but it's not at all posh - even though they have spruced things up since our last visit.

BUT the food is really lovely and the people are really nice. Steak pie & chips to die for, steak & kidney pudding & chips to dream about; pub food at its basic best.

Well worth the stop if you are travelling up the A1.

I don't know about the accommodation - only the restaurant.

“The cat's whiskers!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We have often eaten at the Cat Inn, the food is always fresh, well-cooked, excellent value for money and served in a very professional manner with a huge smile, what a refreshing change! Last weekend we decided to stay over, our room was large with fabulous views of coast and country. It was spotlessly clean and contained everything one could possibly need, plenty of cupboard and drawer space, lots of towels, a large shower cubicle and a very generous 'tea tray'. The breakfast is enormous and very tasty, they do not do things by halves a the Cat Inn!

We had drinks in the bar, where you are made to feel very welcome and the local crowd are very friendly and chatty. What a joy to see an open fire, it added to the warm welcome and smelt lovely.

All the staff are welcoming and friendly, but of course Jen lives up to all her good reviews and her charming manner adds to the pleasure of the stay. I would heartily recommend the Cat Inn to anyone who likes a more personal touch when either eating out or looking for somewhere to stay.

Room Tip: If you can get Room One you will be very lucky, it is huge and the views are stunning!

“Warm welcome and great home cooking.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

My husband and I have driven past the Cat Inn several times and were always intrigued about the "cat" theme. We stopped by to a very warm welcome and a lovely home made meal. After a massive gammon steak and tasty lasagne with fresh salad we sampled the Triple Ginger Cheesecake which was the best cheesecake either of us have ever tasted. The owners have possibly missed a marketing opportunity as the "cat" theme was not as pronounced as we had expected (but we are cat lovers!). Nice background music would be appreciated in the restaurant as we arrived for a late lunch when things were quieter.

“Soooooooooooo good”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

Unassuming place from the outside the Cat is nothing short of excellent once you're inside. If you're looking for a friendly welcome, a great atmosphere and superb home cooking then this place is perfect for you. Jen gets rave reviews on this site and she deserves them all.

The food is wonderful, home cooked and reasonably priced - try the pea & ham soup. Way better than it sounds! Rooms are clean, well presented and the beds really comfortable.

I travel loads for business ( my company has a business account with Premier Inns) but this made a wonderful change with its individuality and friendly charm.
