“Overnight stay in Berwick while on coast to castles cycle ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

Stayed at the "Backpackers" with 12 others whilst doing the coast to castles bike ride. Rang Angela as we approached Berwick, she promptly dropped everything to welcome us. Excellent rooms, very clean and tidy, secure bike storage , drying facility and can cater for a big group. Lovely , well equipped kitchen , full of food, that can fit the all group in and discuss the next days activities over a cuppa or a beer , whatever you choose! Slap bang central in Berwick, ideal for pubs and places to eat, if you choose to go out. Will probably do this again next year, definately recommended.

“4 Star Hostel - absolutely brilliant.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

I stayed here on my own for just 1 night at the start of my Northumbrian coastal route trip and what a way to start. For starters, Berwick upon tweed is a beautiful little town.... The hostel is located centrally for everything. Quiet Pubs across the street, tons of restaurant and friendly locals.
I had a single room that was perfectly clean and had its own tv with satalite or freeviews channels in, which made me feel at home. The bathroom was perfectly clean and decent. The Georgian buildings are adorable and the staff were genuinely sweet. I actually could not believe how cheap it was to stay here. Had a lovely stay and can't wait to go back to this hostel. Highly recommended. The owner let me use her laptop and wifi for free which was lovely.

I believe the current owner and partner are moving on, but lets hope the new owners do as good a job as them.

They have 4stars for guest accomodation outside.... I can see why :)

“Fantastic location, friendly people, homely rooms.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2010

This was my first solo trip to a hostel and I couldn't have chosen a better place than Berwick Backpackers. Angela and Ian made me feel welcome, safe and comfortable for my six day stay in Berwick. My room was decorated with lots of nice individual touches that made it feel much more homely than your average dorm room. The bathroom and kitchen facilities were scrupulously clean and well maintained. A nice touch was the yummy self-serve breakfasts, where a great selection of cereals, eggs, yoghurts etc were on offer. The atmosphere was really laid back and friendly. It was great as a solo traveller to be able to chat to other people staying at the hostel either in the kitchen/lounge or the lovely courtyard area, that was lovely and sunny for my stay. The other major plus of Berwick Backpackers is it's fantastic location, in the middle of town but yet peaceful at the same time. I was five minutes walk from the bus stop, and managed to visit Holy Island, the Farne Islands (loads of puffins!) and the Cheviots for great walking. Berwick itself is a fascinating town and did a great tour from the tourist info office. Overall, a great place to stay, which made it a fantastic holiday.

“Very central and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2009

Stayed in room 4 and it was very comfortable, can't comment on other rooms. The self catering kitchen was good but there could be a problem if a few people tried to use it all at the one time. Had one of the best Indian meals ever at the Villa Spice Indian Restaurant in the town. All in all a good experience.

“this is great! Believe what you read”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2009

A top place to stay. Friendly, warm, 'make yourself at home' welcome, breakfast, internet included and the welcoming hosts! Lovely single room, I could store my bike too. Right by Berwicks Old Bridge and on the Lowry trail - almost in one of the paintings! Great local fish and chip shop round the corner too. I will definately come back. One of the best hostels I've stayed at in the UK.
