“An excellent experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Quite a busy lunchtime (30th Dec 2011) but glad we decided to have lunch as it was extremely well planned and executed by the front of house and kitchen team. Compliments on your choice of butcher as the meat was well hung and benefited from a simple approach to cooking it. Our 2 meals looked good and that's always a hint that the chef's in charge of agreeing when orders can go.
I think you need to look at the costs versus portion size - it looks to me as if I'm the winner on what I paid versus what I received!
An excellent experience!

“CANT DO ENOUGH TO HELP”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

We've been visiting this part of the country for over 25 years most of the time spent camping at Beadnell with regular visits to the Craster Arms, food and drink always good and reasonably priced. This was our second one night stay at the Craster Arms this year, on our first visit in September we were impressed with the level of service from the friendly staff, just couldn't do enough to help, we were in room 3 which is smaller than the other two but more than adequate for one night with a great view from the large window and plenty of space to relax, great telly! Our second stay, middle of November, much quieter than september with the landlord virtually running things on his own but the level of service was still of a high standard and once again couln't do enough to please, we were in room 2 which is much bigger and very comfortable.
If youre looking for b&b with friendly caring staff then I would highly recommend the Craster Arms.

Room Tip: Rooms 2&3 are larger than room 3

“This is an average pub b&b, and as such is overpriced.”

We were passing customers looking for one weekday night's accomodation.
On reflection I can only say that we found it very much overpriced for what we got. I suspect that the Craster Arms believes it is delivering a good service - but from our experience there is much yet to be improved.
The bed was comfortable and the room bigger than we needed. The staff were pleasant, however
- it did not appear that the bathroom was properly cleaned between guests (and the outside rim around the shower base had not been cleaned for some time)
- the blinds were dusty and curtains are in fact needed to block out the lights outside
- the evening meal was really quite bad. The haddock and chips we ordered were soggy and very very greasy (in fact rather awful), although the ingredients looked to have been good the cooking was very poor
- the electric shower gave such an inadequate water flow that we could only wonder whether Craster had a severe shortage of water!
- breakfast is only available from 8.30am
I thus suggest that you might look elsewhere for a better deal.

“Sack your Chef!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We have been visiting Beadnell for a number of years and have used the Craster Arms before. In 2009 and 2010 the food was excellent and very good value for money. Unfortunately they have a new chef this year and although the quality of the produce hasn't changed and is still locally sourced the new chef is a disaster. Over the course of our holiday we were served food which was luke warm, a fish stew which was more of a soup than a stew (and was served with chips not rice as advertised), a vegetable stroganoff which consisted of sliced carrot, sliced potato and green beans in a sickly sauce. One evening they forgot one of our parties meal completely. The last time we ate there two of us ordered fish cakes with jacket potato, when served the potatoes weren't even close to being cooked so we sent them back. When they returned with our meals the potatoes were still no where near cooked and as we had been there for 1 1/4 hours we said we were not staying and went to eat elsewhere.
The only good thing about the Craster Arms this year is that they still allow dogs inside, but if they still have the same chef next year when we visit we will be going elsewhere!

Had lunch at Craster Arms end Aug plus visited for drinks. Good environment, food good and beer quite cheap. Happy to recommend
