“A peaceful and relaxing break.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We were given gift vouchers to contribute to our recent stay as other family members are regular visitors. We stayed in the coach house which we found quiet and peaceful. Staff were welcoming and friendly, attentive and pleasant without being invasive. We sampled afternoon tea in the bar by a roaring fire, leisurely reading the papers as the river rushed by. Returning to our room we both had paperwork to do which passed the time until a luxurious bath in the well appointed bathroom. Molton & Brown products complemented the roll top bath and decor. Our evening meal was lovely and the wine was delicious. We had the scallops starter and beef and lamb for main - no room for pudding. You can rent DVDs for the room or remain in the bar which is both lively and friendly. The four poster was surprisingly comfy and in the morning we sampled the tea / coffee before breakfast. We can recommend the full English and endless coffee refills. In all honesty, we are more into city breaks but these were vouchers we had been given. It was a little too quiet for us as there is literally nothing to do for miles around that interests us. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed the break and would return for a relaxing break to totally unwind. If you love the outdoors, quirky and clean facilities and wholesome food that is lovingly prepared, then this is the place for you.

“Simply wonderful...”

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night (sadly not 2) over the weekend as a 40th birthday treat for him.
We have been wanting to come here for a few years, and we were not disappointed...

It had been snowing most of the morning and by 2pm when we checked in, it had really got it's grip... this made it all the more magical. We stayed in Room 5 at the back, with a peat fire roaring and with amazing views of the River Hodder and beyond, it truly was a Winter Wonderland.

We have fallen in love with this place, as soon as we walked in we felt at home, fires roaring, people relaxing / some with their cute dogs...the staff are fabulous and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble (I had emailed on several occasions asking all sorts of questions and the replies were always prompt and helpful)

The room was huge, as was the bed (comfortable as well..) fabulous shower with complimentary Molton Brown products... and a note to point out, we are not dog owners and one of my concerns was the room smelling of dog... I was assured not, and true to their word, there was not a trace!

We ate dinner in the Restaurant that night and the atmosphere was lovely, again the staff were really helpful & professional
We ate the Fillet of Beef for 2, superb...
Breakfast was also lovely, The home made marmalade was the best I have ever tasted... Though as 1 other reviewer has commented, it would have been nice for some fresh fruit to have been prepared, only a suggestion...

We cannot wait to return... maybe a Summer visit to make the most of the surrounding Countryside as well...

Room Tip: Rooms with a River View and Peat Fire are a little more expensive, but worth it for the views and am...

“loveley place to stay but why so many dogs?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The Inn is loveley, and the grounds are amazing. I like dogs, but I stayed mid week and most people had a dog with them and frankly it was a bit much. Could there not be a limit on the number, or perhaps a seperate dining room/bar for non dog-owners. I was getting chesty and weasy at the end of the stay.

Room 2 is small, but very nice for one, may be small for two. I didn't get my alarm call though which set me off late and no discounts/concessions for this were forthcoming

“Beautiful setting, excellent service”

We have just celebrated my husband's 50th birthday here and I was helped to organise a Sunday lunch for friends which was great, the staff couldn't do enough to help and make it really special. We stayed the night before and had dinner in the bar with some friends and our children and the food is amazing, the ambience and setting are perfect for a country house weekend retreat, I'd tried many times to book rooms here and now realise why it's impossible without booking far in advance and why it's quite expensive - but worth it.

“A Perfect Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Having just returned from a fantastic stay here, I feel compelled to recommend, quite unreservedly, this idyllic country retreat. This is England at its very finest and my wife and I have already planned to return. It is rare that one cannot find anything to criticise, however, that was genuinely the case here. The staff are friendly and attentive whilst reminaing unobtrusive which makes for a truly relaxing ambience, enhanced by the beautiful country furnishings and roaring log fires (...... not to mention the Blond Witch beer!). Our room was magnificent with tremendous views of the surrounding countryside. We enjoyed a superb meal in the bar in the evening with great wine (well priced) and a similarly impressive lunch the following day. We had been intending to stay here for some time and are only sorry we hadn't done so sooner!! With our thanks to all for keeping the Inn such a treasure and the perfect place to escape to.

Room Tip: Ask the advice of reception when booking - they got it right for us!.
