“Great place to stay with our dog”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

person found this review helpful

We come to this part of Lancashire regularly to visit family, and we've been searching for years for somewhere pleasant we could stay with our dog. At last we've found it! The management and staff are very efficient and friendly, the food - using locally-sourced produce - is very good, and the rooms are clean and well-appointed, with no unnecessary restrictions.

“Hidden treasure for a travelling sales person”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

I stayed at the Bayley Arms on tuesday night and was welcomed warmly by the ladies behind the bar who swiftly checked me in and gave me the key to the single room.

I was vey happy when i opened the door to a newly decorated large double room, with a bathroom bigger than an average kitchen! The room was lovely and warm for arrival at 7:30 in the evening.

Beds are comfy, TV channel selection was great (freeview) and the tea, coffees and herbal teas are a nice touch.

I went down for food as it smelled lovely,. and it was. All lovally sourced food

Staff were lovely, breakfast was great... I paid a great price on the laterooms website - B&B £45. Cant go wrong for that price. BARGAIN

“Welcoming Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Was pleasantly suprised by our stay at the Bayley Arms, warm, friendly and cosey atmosphere. We had our two children so booked a family room it was comfortable and accomodating. The breakfast was lovely and we also dined in the evening as well, overall our children were made to feel very welcome and we didn't feel like we were in the way like some hotels we have stayed at before.
If your looking for a relaxing, friendly and warm hotel set in a rural village this is the place for you, definately worth a visit, we will be back.

“Good pub grub, nicely served.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

The owners have sold the Shireburn down the road and are now concentrating on the Bayley Arms. Judging from older reviews some money has been spent, at least in the bar areas so the place looks tidy and well-maintained. It has a sport theme and on cold days there is a warm fire burning. The hotel is popular with parents and pupils from Stonyhurst College just up the road so you can hear all kinds of languages being spoken in the bar. Friendly and efficient staff welcomed us and took trouble to look after us. The food was good pub grub served piping hot on hot plates, so important when so many places ruin good food by dumping it on cold plates. I had a ribeye steak, which was a little small for £15 and okay but not brilliant - chefs need to understand about searing steak to give flavour and this wasn't seared. The vegetarian options are limited to one dish only but it was tasty enough. The beers were from Moorhouses and Copper Dragon though check the barrel is fresh because slow turnover during the week can mean you are drinking beer that's past its best in country pubs, assuming you don't drink pasteurised Euro-fizz.

Can't say what the rooms and breakfasts are like but for pub nosh and a warm welcome you won't be disappointed. A meal for three with a few drinks came to just over £60.
