“Mixed thoughts”

First the positives. Easy to get to, attractive property in a lovely little village. My room was clean and comfortable, the bed was comfiest I think I've ever slept in. I had a double room, with the usual amenities plus a few welcome extras - bar of choclate, bottle of Hildon water and various toiletries. Breakfast was well presented and cooked nicely, with a choice of various cereals, fruits etc.

But, and I'm a fraid it's a big "but". The walls are paper thin, I barely slept, thanks mainly to the ignorant pair in the next room who talked loudly and late into the early hours, when eventually they fell asleep, the sound of their snoring kept me awake. Every time someone went to the bathroom I could hear everything, and I do mean everything.

It's such a shame, because this undid all the postives for me. The room cost me £85, which would've been worth every penny if I'd been able to sleep, however I now wish I'd saved myself half the money and stayed at a premier inn in Andover instead.

“Relax in comfort!”

We stayed 2 nights as were attending a 70th Birthday Party in the area. We were impressed with the friendly atmosphere and helpful staff. Lovely comfy beds, nice linen and general comfort of the room. Only negative comment would be mixer tap in bathroom. Was difficult to get temperature right before stepping into shower. A single tap might be better. Also a grab rail for oldies like us! Breakfasts were fantastic - wonderful fruit and Fabulous Full Monty. Thank you!

“Brilliant and soooo picturesque!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2008

I stayed in this gorgeous place for one night with business...the reception was good, the rooms were great although my wardrobe did lean a bit to one side! My bathroom was huge and lovely...the bed was comfy and the tv was impressive! Breakfast was spot on with plenty to chose from and my whole experience of staying at The White Hart was excellent...I would recommend this hotel to anybody and would be more than happy to stay there again...

“I enjoyed the place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 March 2008

A restored 15th-century coaching inn with many original features. We stayed only one night but would be a great home base for maybe 3 days visiting Winchester, Salisbury, and Stonehenge, or if you're fishing or going to the races at Thruxton. Made the reservation the prior day via the telephone. No problems upon check-in, room was comfortable with no surprises. Attached pub provided a great dinner. Sat in the pub drank Fullers beers, chatted with some locals in the evening. Had a great time. I'd stay there again. A member of the Distinctive Country Inns organization. I stayed at three member Inns over a week and was impressed with each one.

“Questionable”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2007

One wonders about a "hotel" which takes a block booking for a wedding scheduled to take place some ten miles distant at 3.00 p.m. but which will not allow the guests concerned to check in until 2.30 p.m. No effort was made to make a room available for the wedding guests to change in and housekeeping crawled through the rooms at the pace of a snail. We ended up changing in a room which another wedding guest had booked for the previous night as well as the Saturday. That room never did receive any attention from housekeeping! Its occupants arrived back from the reception after midnight to find their bed hadn't even been made.

The poor girl behind the bar who had to deal with fed-up guests at lunchtime on the Saturday was as helpful and apologetic as anyone could have been but her boss was absent and it was "policy" not to let anyone check in before 2.30.

We made it our policy not to check out until we were good and ready!!!!!!!!!

  • Disliked — Tiny room, bad lighting, abysmal pillows, heard every noise from rooms above
