We went for a family lunch one afternoon. There was a good choice of food and lots of specials on the blackboard, however the service was extremely slow. With about 4 staff on the front, we waited nearly half an hour for someone to take our order, even though there were hardly any other customers. When the food eventually did arrive, it was mostly cold. One of the orders was wrong, and the fish and chips were limp and tasteless. We decided to keep the other meals but send the fish and chips back. When they arrived they were hard and burnt, obviously over-cooked. I have been back since a few times and the atmosphere is very nice, and the staff seem very genuine. Although the speed of service does vary.

Lovely rooms, decent price & value. Had a refurbished/superior room, very nice bathroom. Friends had regular rooms which were also very nice. Quiet location. Bed slightly too soft. Breakfast very tasty and plentiful. Ate evening meal in restaurant, mains were average but not disagreeable, lovely puddings. Staff always helpful and courteous. Free wifi. Would definitely recommend.

A surprising nice inn with small, but reasonably well-appointed rooms, a reasonable evening meal menu, good beer, nice breakfast, a very comfortable bed and helpful staff.
Stockbridge is a charming and picturesque village straddling a stunning chalk river. The White Hart is on the edge of the village on what appears to be a rather unpromising roundabout. However, it was actually rather quiet and sleepy.

We stayed at the White Hart for just one night and it was very pleasant. The rooms are exceptionally clean (although slightly small) with everything you need in them. Very, very comfortable bed (which has to be one of the most important criteria when staying away) with good quality white linen. It was a very hot night so we were thankful for the fan! We did think the food was very average though and had to wait quite some time, even though it wasn't a full pub. I actually couldn't find any fish in my fishcakes! I have eaten in the pub a few times before and thought it very average. The breakfast however was excellent. The staff are extremely professional, helpful and informative. We would stay again.
