“Like a Sauna”

My husband and I stayed here for one night in mid July, never again it was hottest day of the year 33 degrees and our bedroom felt like an oven. We left bedroom windows open and went out for the evening. on returning our room had not cooled down at all it was hotter! we then discovered the bathroom towel rail was on full and we could not turn it off. reception was called the girl could do nothing so then got manager over all he could do was to turn off the pump in the loft. it helped slightly but we hardly slept that night! In the morning the rail was still warm. The room its self was very dated and not very clean either, we then went down for breakfast 2 stale croissants and white sliced bread for toast not at all good considering they are supposed to have 2 AA rosettes. do not know what food was like in the evening as we went else where. The only good point was they halved our bill on leaving would not go back again ever!

“Restaurant Review Only - Poor value for money”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2010

Had really looked forward to visiting this restaurant but left very disappointed. The venue was excellent and the service was brilliant but the food was only average and the value for money was terrible. Portions were minute and very expensive. A £ 3 surcharge on the already expensive 3 course dinner price of £ 39.50 was a joke. The portions for all courses were unbelievably small. I don't mind paying these prices but believe there should be some value for money so you don't leave feeling totally ripped off. Won't be going back and won't be recommending to anyone. Sorry you need to rethink this!

“Room was no better than an everage B and B at more than twice the price”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 April 2008

Was unfortunate enough to stay in Blue Room (see earlier review). Cramped (no space for bedside tables) , generally a bit shabby and no bath despite paying £130! Nasty dirty bedspread, windowless shower room with cheap fittings and very inadequate water pressure. Feel totally ripped off for the room. That said, the food and service in the restaurant were excellent. Don't stay here unless someone else is paying and avoid the Blue Room at all costs.

“Not awful but not great either”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2008

The hotel is situated right next to a busy road and my room was on the ground floor so noise was a problem. Even more so because the guests upstairs appeared to be walking on the noisiest wooden floors ever invented - some maintanence needed here I think. No bath in the bathroom - only a shower. The bed was comfortable though, and things like water and an ironing board were provided free. Breakfast was nice, and included in the price (£90 single), and the staff were very pleasant. The other rooms may be nicer - the photos look as if they are - just make sure you dont get the "Blue Room" if you are at all a light sleeper.
