From the moment of arrival, we knew we had picked a lovely place. We were a little early and keen to have a walk into Sheringham to see the sea and get our bearings. Robert came to greet us and told us happily to leave the car and return when we were ready. On our return, we were greeted by Linda who showed us to our lovely room and then treated us to the nicest cream tea in the lovely garden. (She also became a friend of mine for life by treating us to an extra piece of chocolate cake!)
The room itself was just as advertised: spacious, beautifully decorated and airy. The bed was great and the other furniture matched perfectly. There was even a lovely double sofa in the bay window, perfect for relaxing and watching the flat screen TV.
The en suite bathroom was large, tastefully decorated, and had the nicest shower I have ever used. Fluffy bathrobes and towels, together with lovely toiletries, just topped off the bathroom to perfection.
It was a lovely short walk into Sheringham village and Linda was very helpful with recommending which pubs to head to and which to avoid! She recommended the Windham Arms and we followed her advice, and were rewarded with the nicest lamb either of us had ever eaten!
Cleat House provided a lovely base to explore the surrounding area. Holt village is a lovely little place - but be warned, some of the shops were pricey! We did, however, fine some lovely trinkets for presents and spent a happy couple of hours in the courtyard of a lovely pub.
Cromer is nice as well, especially the pier. It entertained us for a good hour, watching everyone crab off the pier. We would have tried it ourselves had we had longer. There were some nice shops in Cromer, and several nice tea rooms as well.
But back to the guesthouse: Linda and Robert made us feel that nothing was too much trouble, but they were not 'in your face' at all. We were told to come and go as we pleased, and we certainly felt we were not being 'watched' at all. Not that we were out late, but we didn't worry that it would cause any problem if we were.
The breakfasts were delicious! We both treated ourselves to something different every day and were never disappointed. Although both our favourite has to be the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on bagels - just mouthwatering!
Every little luxury was thought of. The bedding and towels were scrupulously clean and smelled and felt soft and fresh - so much so that I embarrassed myself by asking Linda how she got her whites so clean and how come they smelled so nice!!! Luckily, she was more than happy to share some of her secrets! :-)
Little things make the difference. We had chocolates on the pillows daily, very good quality toiletries, luxury quilted toilet roll (Which I have now been told I have to buy at home!), and the softest, fluffiest bathrobes I have ever worn!
In short, a fabulous stay. It is by far the nicest place we have ever stayed in, with the most gracious hosts who take the time to go that little bit further and provide little luxuries that other places do not think about.
I would recommend Cleat House to anyone who is planning to holiday in this area of Norfolk. Cannot say enough good things about it.
Thanks to Robert and Linda for a wonderful stay.
