We greatly enjoyed the May Bank Holiday weekend at the Benchmark. Our room was on the ground floor of this substantial house, actually two houses converted magnificently into one by Angela and Nigel. They have paid great attention to getting all the details right. The sheets, the towels, the bathroom "amenities" were up to 5-star hotel standards, spotlessly maintained, and the public rooms are attractively furnished. The landscaped garden provides an attractive view from the dining room, where you can breakfast sensibly or go for the scrumptious 'full English'. (Go for it!)
We parked the car at the Benchmark each evening, preferring the brisk ten minute walk into town for dinner. Ask Angela & Nigel for their restaurant recommendations. We enjoyed three very different cuisines: bistro, oriental and local seafood.
Our stay was a fun break in relaxing surroundings and we hope to return.
