“Yet another wonderfull stay!”

We have stayed at the Beechwood on two seperate occasions a few years ago and enjoyed it so much that for a special treat my husband booked a suprise stay for us to celebrate not only my birthday but also my retirement!
Once again the hotel did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived and went to get our bags out of our car the young man from reception was there to help, to complimentary tea and scones that were waiting for us in the lounge, we were made to feel very welcome. Our room was one of the new Garden Rooms and as before was extremly comfortable and spotless. Lyndsey and Don are the perfect hosts who take the such a pride in their hotel it is a real delight to stay there.

A truly beautiful hotel with great food and delightful service. Easily one of the very best hotels we have stayed in.

Room Tip: The "standard rooms" are both individual and comfortable.

“SSSh! - don't tell anyone about this place. They'll all want to go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

Only stayed one night on business but could have done with a couple of more! Couldn't find fault with the hotel or service. My only gripe was that my room was on the ground floor but, that is a personal choice, not a reflection of the very comfortable, clean and pleasant room. My colleagues and I didn't eat dinner in the hotel which was a shame but the breakfast was ideal. Landlord very friendly and is obviously caters for those interested in all aspect of the countryside. Made the mistake of telling my wife about the hotel so now she now wants to visit it for a short break (I'll never learn).

“Exceptional food and service for a birthday dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

I ate dinner here with my family last week for my cousin's 21st birthday celebrations. The welcome we received was great, we sat in the bar which is admittedly quite small and there were quite a few people in there (maybe some background music would've been nice as it was a bit awkward when it fell silent as we walked in!!).

The waitress was very efficient and smiley, the drinks were great and we got some yummy hors-d'oeuvres whilst we chatted in the bar area.....

The staff have got to be the most friendly hotel staff I've ever encountered, one of the waiters in particular was an absolute gem and had us all in fits of laughter......overall a great time was had by all. See below for details of the food............................. all locally sourced as much as possible.

They called us over to dinner when the amuse-bouches were ready. The portions were a perfect size, i had scallops for starter which were really really tasty- the best i've eaten. I loved the combination of scallops with fennel and orange, perfect, although maybe could have gone without the bacon.... although on second thoughts it did add a sharp, salty element to complement the aniseed in the fennel and the acidity of the orange.

Then I had partridge two ways, which was interesting and the sauce that accompanied it was great, you could taste each individual flavour..... I kind of wish i'd chosen the venison in chocolate sauce though, as my cousin's boyf had this and it looked perfectly cooked - he said the chocolate sauce was really tasty and unusual.

For dessert I was boring and went for the ice-cream- the bread and butter ice cream worked really well but I wasn't so keen on the coffee flavoured one, a bit too sharp, needed a bit more sweetness.

“Warmth and pleasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

We were absolutely delighted with our three night stay at this hotel. Our room was extremely comfortable with a big bed and fine linen, and the bathroom, handsome in black and white tiles, was luxuriously large. Some reviewers have been a little cool about the food, but we enjoyed it all; I would especially mention the fillet of beef, cooked perfectly rare, the partridge done two ways, and dessert with dark chocolate tart. Breakfasts were just as good, with properly scrambled egg (always a test) and real kippers. They put a lot of emphasis on locally sourced food, and I am completely in favour of this. But what makes the hotel stand out is the quality of customer service. the owners, Don and Lyndsey, are very hands on in their approach, and it has clearly paid off. They manage to be warm and efficient, and to treat their customers like individuals, which really matters. This is a truly delightful small hotel in one of England's loveliest areas.

Room Tip: The smaller rooms do look a bit small, so go up a grade if you can.
