“almost perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

The name of the hotel is now Atlantica Sensatori Resort.
We stayed at this hotel with our 2 children for a week in mid Aug. 2011. Our booking was for a “family room inland view” but fortunately we were upgraded to a family room with sea view. Our room consisted of a main bedroom separated by sliding doors from the living room that had 2 sofa beds. We had a balcony with direct view to the sea. The decoration was rich, carefully selected, at earth colors which created a pleasant environment. There was a large TV set, a mini fridge and coffee making facilities, but no internet in the room. Internet was free and fast in the reception area. The modern bathroom was equipped with a shower plus a Jacuzzi.

The hotel is big, at the time we stayed there were around 1000 guests, but you could hardly feel it as every detail is well organized. The vast majority of the guests were from the UK. So every activity was in English only (including the mini club, mini disco and other children activities)

There are many lagoon shape pools but children are allowed only to some of them. The main children pool is away from the others and is equipped with slides and other nice water games which the children loved. Many other sport facilities and games were available. However the number of sun beds was never enough and we have to “reserve” them by leaving towels – which is not “officially” allowed – but everyone is doing the same. What I didn’t like was that the pools were “closing” at 18:00.
The quality of the food was very high, I could say it was beyond every expectation at all the restaurants we tried and at all times (breakfast, lunch, dinner). However due to the big number of guests, you have to queue at an electronic kiosk every day early (considering you are on vacation) in the morning in order to reserve at a (different than the main buffet) restaurant.
There is a big variety of night entertainment which all guests enjoyed a lot (which made it a bit difficult to find a place to sit and have a good view at the performers)
There is a quite good gym and a spa with indoor pool

All the staff was very polite, not only professionally polite but truly caring to assist. Two exceptions: the reception persons both at our arrival and departure.

The beach in front of the hotel is long and sandy but the sea was dangerous most of the time.
The whole experience was very positive. It was one of the best hotels I have been. If it was more green i.e. had gardens, it would have been perfect.

“Good hotel in a quiet location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

I would agree with other reviews that this hotel is a 4 star and not a 5. Saying that we did have a good holiday - the fact that we had 7 days of glorious sunshine certainly helped.

We didn't go for the all-inclusive drinks package and to be honest it wasn't worth it. With full board you get beer and wine with your lunch and dinner. The wine was fine - i've payed for much worse. Drink in the bar across the road. It's much cheaper than the hotel and it's a nice place to sit and chill listening to some music (men can watch the footie!).

The rooms were large and clean. We had asked for a room in the adults block but were allocated a room in block 4000 and i've got to say that we were more than happy with our room. Pool and sea view.

The food was above average for hotel food. The Red Saffron is much the same as the main dining room though. Tex Mex good and Thai was lovely. We also ate at the Japanese which is not included in the full board package. It was good.

If dining in the main dining room sit outside as the service is not as good inside.

Entertainment wise I couldn't really comment and that can of thing it not for us but it was ok (i think).

The checkout system was really good as it limits the time you have to spend at the airport which is one of the worst i've ever been to. We payed extra to keep our room due to a late flight and it was worth it.

Would definetely go to another Sensatori hotel.

Room Tip: Some of the adult blocks look onto the beach which is not very nice so i would avoid.

“Atlantica Caldera Palace,”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

What a shambles, the sunbed fiasco would make any German proud, it's the English this time, and it made the holiday a bit of a nightmare, plus having no pool attendent to help with a heavy and potential lethal umbrellas
.
The staff were fabulous excpect one misery in the Tex Mex cafe, the setting was good, and the cleanliness was excellent, the maids worked so hard.,

On arrival we thought as we had paid full board we would have drinks included, No they asked for 123 euro.!!! which was a cheek, as the prices we far and away above all the local bars
those that purchased these bands had to have them on display, booking a restaurant was another .fiasco as you have to take your room credit type card, and book via an atm type maching in the hall at 10 and even then there were queues.
The buffet , was a buffet and the same all week.could not have endured that for another week.
So as you can tell will not be going back.

“Genuine good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We booked through Thompson ( which is something I would not normally do ) as we wanted a last minute week away. Although, as has been commented before, this is really not a 5 star hotel as many would know but we thought it was good value for what it provided.

So here is my summary and tips.

Rooms: Clean, very comfortable and spacious. Beware though, as I read previously the two outer front blocks ( 8000/9000) could provide you with a very poorly positioned room and no view at all. I never checked this but there ought to be substantial discounts for some of these rooms.

Food: More than acceptable - the main two restaurants are buffet style but have a very good choice on offer. The Stone Grill and A la carte which are not included fully in your price are fine but certainly not worth the extra they charge - I would stick to the others. They are both pretending to be something they are not. Note the long trousers dress code for the evening, we witnessed some in shorts being turned away.

Drinks: Not brilliant and very expensive. My advice, use the onsite shop for pool drinks at normal prices. I hate wristbands so did not think the inclusive offer worthwhile ( our bill still was lower than the wristbands would have cost and that included tips ) but did note that at mealtimes some who had used this service were restricted to the type of drink you could buy.

Local Area: Poor and dont expect anything special from the beach!

Staff: Very friendly.

Pools. Excellent, clean and plenty of them. The sunbed issue is a problem, the hotel is at pains to stress its no towels policy but then does nothing about it - it really needs to address this as I imagine at peak times it is nigh on impossible to get one.

We did not try the Spa so can't comment but did some of the sports are they are as you would expect.

Real plus point - the Sensatori package bought the airport check in to the hotel on the way home and was an excellent service especially when we witnessed the chaos and facilities at Heraklion airport - I have not been to a Greek Island for some years but boy do they need to invest in their infrastructure - the place was a hellhole!

It would be easy to pick faults with this resort and package but for a week away we were very pleased. I have paid a lot more to stay in worse places!

Room Tip: Ask for block 6 with a sea view and a swim up room!
