The GRT Regency in Kanchipuram is as good as can be expected in a provincial town in India. The rooms are clean, the bed is not bad even if a little short. Showering was a bit difficult because the shower faucet was not working well, but we managed to get ourselves clean. There was a bit of noise from generators.
We stayed two nights and were disappointed by the breakfast. There is a mix of Western style and Indian dishes, but the quality of both should be better.
The restaurant at the hotel is nothing better than average as well. It serves some non-Indian food as well, which might come in handy for travelers from abroad. For Indian food, the Saravana Bhavan is probably better.
The bar in the basement reminded us of other provincial bars in hotels. Drinks are poured as if they are the finest quality and the bartenders think highly of themselves. It is fun to watch and worth trying out. Don't look too close in the corners though, because cleanliness here could be better...
