Stayed with my wife in Kumar Plaza for 1 night (4/5 Jan 2012). We have booked thru Trip advisor. Good budget hotel for an overnight trip. It is very conveniently located, only 5 mins walk from Matheran station and main market. Food is ok type, rooms are average and require more maintenance and cleanliness. Hospitality is good with very friendly staff.

My husband was going back abroad after leave we plan for a trip for 2 nites 3 days since we are not resident of Maharashtra . Some frenz suggested to option to visit in maharashtra which are nearby destination lonavla and matheran and we opted for Matheran. We searched for good hotel on site and finally opted for Kumar plaza since we wanted spacious and luxurious room to stay . we did prior booking for AC Suite room as dey said its recently renovated bt at end dey said its all fulll due to weekend for one day dey gave us Balcony Room and next day shifted to AC Suite . Balcony rooms very poor total waste of money as der is no view for balcony to overcharge it , no cleanliness , interior with old antique really need to replaced as if slight push centre table glass will fall down , lights as if dey blink with load of power , load shedding in every hour frequently ,water log'ng problem in washroom , hot water supply for only 1 to 2 hrs in morning , service not happening , Food not much option in buffet saying non-veg veg both but dey only serve one non veg dish in some curry style which is not happening , food quality not good nor tasty , Ac suite rooms ok ok bt still suite name doesnt suit . Would suggest other hotel seem to be similar not that happening , good place only in case u visit with big group of frenz and family may be u enjoy in der company otherwise not so happening . Only best part of matheran fresh breeze , no polllution , unique as no transport other den horse . but please do pre reservation for toy train as it worst to stay in que for hours to get ticket as only limited seats available

This hotel is quite away from Main Market. One can stay at the end of the market, so it is a bit less noisy.
This is a good looking hotel.
The rooms are clean, well kept and well designed.
There is also a swimming pool, discotheque.
Hospitality of this hotel is good and with very friendly staff and good service.
The quality of food is good and multi cuisine.
One thing to take care here is regarding monkeys and it is advisable to keep the windows closed.
Overall good hotel to stay and revisit.

I visited Matheran along with my father and stayed in the Kumar Plaza for one night (31Aug11). Matheran was at its best in monsoon and being an off season we got a decent discount. Coming to the Hotel, it seems the promoter made this Hotel with good amount of money and emotions. However the Hotel requires heavy maintainence. There are both negatives and positives about this property.
Cons:
We took the best available room viz. Balcony. However the handle of the door was broken from outside so everytime someone came to serve us anything we had to get up from our bed to open the door. There were baby cockroaches in the room. Linen was dirty and we had to get it changed. Phone line had a lot of disturbance. And to worsen our experience TV in the adjoining room was switched on with big sound at around 1 am in the night and it continued till the early morning till the time I asked a waiter to switch off the TV. Apparently hotel staff leaves the TV on without any guests also so that TV doesn't go out of order because of moisture. However it disturbed our sleep.

Pros
Food Quality and affable people at reception. Good location and open air restaurant.
