“Great Family get away :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We were there last year.Very nice lodge...clean and friendly.Pools were nice and clean. The game room was a nice added feature. There were a bunch of deer coming up from the woods and wanting left overs...LOL The walking trail was nice and long.It is in a very quiet area.Nature at it's best! We had a great time :)

Room Tip: Request a room with a lake view ....beautiful

“Great family getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We stayed at the lodge with our family to celebrate my husbands birthday. It had been many years since we stayed in the lodge. We were pleasantly surprised that the beauty and integrity of the lodge had not declined at all. Outstanding staff and service in a beautiful setting.

Room Tip: Adjoining rooms are king/double with bunk. In the winter be sure to request a view of the woods. P...

“Reliable, good weekend getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

This rustic lodge is run by Xanterra for the State of Ohio and is located in a laid-back, semi-secluded, hilly natural setting with lots of trees, water, and wildlife and no traffic noise. If the spirit moves you and if you have the energy, there is much to do: golf, swimming (either pool or the lake), horseback riding, boating (you can rent boats or canoes), hiking (many miles of trails, some very difficult), horseshoes, paintball, and a bit more. There is thankfully little tobacco smoke to deal with indoors as all the rooms and indoor public areas are smoke-free.

The rooms are not fancy but they are clean, well furnished, and well maintained. One disappointment on my last stay (Thanksgiving weekend) was the lodge-supplied shampoo and soap products -- these were promoted as "green" but were the worst, foulest-smelling products I have ever used! Until the management finally succumbs to customer complaints and replaces them with a more nose-friendly variety you should bring your own.

The lodge restaurant is excellent though just a tad pricey for a family budget. The menu is very limited but has an intelligent selection of entrees and side dishes. You might want to bring some snacks or sandwich fixings for lunch and save your money for an enjoyable dinner.

All the staff, from the maids to the desk personnel to the restaurant servers, were friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the woods, and in the late afternoon you'll see several curious deer come...

“Warm and deertastic!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

My wife and I stayed here in early December of 2011. I am not sure if I could talk this place up any more than I already do. I love Salt Fork State Park and its amazing lodge. Keeping in mind the famous Monster Quest episode that was shot here, everything was peaceful and relaxing. They have a lot of activities involving nature for children and are always decorating for the season. I love the fact that everyone at the Lodge had a lot of knowledge about the surrounding areas and current events. With beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife, it really is a great stay. Just look at the great photos (with my smart phone) I was able to take of my stay. I recommend this lodge to everyone!

Room Tip: Stay on the outside facing rooms on the second or third level, you will look out and deer will great...

“Beautiful lodge...”

We stay here every Thanksgiving weekend- the lodge and park itself is breathtaking, but the common grounds around the lodge were littered this time- we had never expierenced this in the past. Staff is friendly and helpful as always. This was the first time we stayed in the A wing, and were slightly disappointed. The rooms were clean, but our mattresses were old and we felt like we were going to fall out if we got too close to the edge. We never had that problem in the B wing. The bonus is a beautiful lounge, nice pool area with hot tub, and there are dozens of sitting areas with great views. There are deer that came right up to our balcony every night. We like this location because its out of the way. If you hike and enjoy the ourdoors this is perfect. Its about an hour from Wheeling we we like to gamble and go to the Cabellas store.
The food in the lodge is average at best and pricey. The coffee in the rooms and restaraunt is awful. We have been eating in Cambridge for most of our meals- the local family restauraunts have excellent food and large servings for a very fair price- 6 of us had lunch for around $50.00, breakfast for under $40.00 and dinner for about $75.

Room Tip: B wing has updated rooms and better mattresses
