This rustic lodge is run by Xanterra for the State of Ohio and is located in a laid-back, semi-secluded, hilly natural setting with lots of trees, water, and wildlife and no traffic noise. If the spirit moves you and if you have the energy, there is much to do: golf, swimming (either pool or the lake), horseback riding, boating (you can rent boats or canoes), hiking (many miles of trails, some very difficult), horseshoes, paintball, and a bit more. There is thankfully little tobacco smoke to deal with indoors as all the rooms and indoor public areas are smoke-free.
The rooms are not fancy but they are clean, well furnished, and well maintained. One disappointment on my last stay (Thanksgiving weekend) was the lodge-supplied shampoo and soap products -- these were promoted as "green" but were the worst, foulest-smelling products I have ever used! Until the management finally succumbs to customer complaints and replaces them with a more nose-friendly variety you should bring your own.
The lodge restaurant is excellent though just a tad pricey for a family budget. The menu is very limited but has an intelligent selection of entrees and side dishes. You might want to bring some snacks or sandwich fixings for lunch and save your money for an enjoyable dinner.
All the staff, from the maids to the desk personnel to the restaurant servers, were friendly and helpful.
Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the woods, and in the late afternoon you'll see several curious deer come...
