“First B&B”

Staff was really nice and courteous. Room was not what I expected for the amount I paid. The hot tub was dirty, and the light did not work, and we could not get the temp to go back up later in the evening. I called ahead of stay and wanted to make sure that the Itinerary was correct. Upon arrival everything seemed correct until we had our Wine snob class that was supposed to include appetizers, which we never got, and the class only lasted 40 minutes of the hour and a half I was told it would last. I was charged for the cheaper wine class (not snob class), but then when seated for dinner we were mistaken for the around the world wine and 5 course meal special (which I did not make plans for), instead of normal sit down and choose off the menu option, and we were charged more for that. Another issue is that gratuity at 20% was automatically added (not sure if most B&B's are like this), but our server Lisa did deserve it as she was great. I would just like to calculate my own tip. Although the food was excellent, and the service was good, I was unhappy that what I had asked for was not met. When it came time to check out, I was charged what I thought was way more than the one night was worth and found out that my itinerary was not correct due to them being busy and the server must have gotten us mixed up. Although I was offered a fix on what I thought wasn't right, I decided to pay what was charged because we did go through what was offered to us instead of asking what happened to our original plans and we did very much enjoy the food and wine. So all in all yes I enjoyed our stay for the most part but from now on I will make sure that Itineraries are set the way I asked when I first get there to avoid the overpaying and any disappointments.

Room Tip: When viewing online, it can be deceiving. Make sure you ask the size and if there is a hot tub make...

“Great Anniversary Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

My wife and I had a fantastic anniversary weekend. The room was clean and nice. The staff were very helpful and courteous. The food was out of this world. We raved about the food all the way home. We did not know what to expect and were pleasently suprised at the overall tranquility of the Inn.

“Don't be fooled by the pictures of the rooms!”

My husband and I decided last minute to have a night out for our wedding anniversary. I found this place online, and even though it was pricey we decided to splurge and stay. (And it was close to home- but we thought it would be nice to "go away" without kids for the evening) I reviewed the pictures of the rooms online, and decided to book the Serenity Garden room for the hot tub and the jaccuzi. Upon arrival to our room we were shocked by how small the room was for $169 a night!! It was the size of our small computer room at home, the jaccuzi was a bathtub in the bathroom, and the bed was horribly squeeky!! I was about in tears because I was so disappointed. I went downstairs and asked if any of the "suites" in the carriage house were open, and luckily the Louis room was available and she said it was "only about $30 more". At that point it was either spend more money or just drive the 20 minutes and go home but lose the deposit, so we splurged even more and switched rooms. The room was much nicer, with a HUGE jaccuzi and a fireplace. However, you could not see the TV from the jaccuzi, which may seem petty but it was annoying. In our case, however, it didn't matter because the TV didn't work!! We called the front desk and they said someone would be over. A half an hour later, the maintanence guy showed up but after about 45 minutes of trying to get it to work failed. He offered us another room, back at the house without a fireplace OR jaccuzi, but we decided to stay. We had taken our portable DVD player and rented movies so we thought we could hook it up to the TV and watch movies. Another FAILED idea. So basically we got stuck watching movies on our laptop for the night. I will say breakfast was delicious, but we never saw any fresh-baked cookies that are advertised on the website. At check-out I asked if we could call it even and not pay the difference of "around $30" as quoted the night before since the TV didn't work, but the woman would not budge and it ended up being $45 MORE than our original room. Needless to say, we will NOT be going back to stay here again and I will definitly NOT be recommending it to anyone!

Room Tip: If you do decide to go here, atleast pick one of the over-priced suites in the Carriage House.

“Just What we needed.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

My husband I decided to go there for a quick over night trip for our 5 year anniversary being it was only a couple hours away. WOW!!! This place is amazing! Not only is the scenery gorgeous but it is so quiet you would think you were in the middle of nowhere! We thought we were the only couple staying at the Bed and Breakfast but when we went to our fabulous breakfast that came with the room we were suprised to see another couple there as well. We stayed in the African Loft and it was fantastic. I am currently 8 mos pregnant and haven't slept well in months. This bed was so comfortable I had a hard time making myself get out of it the next morning. Everything was clean and th staff was very pleasant. They were setting up for a wedding for the weekend when we checked out and although I didn't get to see much just from the scenery alone I could bet it is going to be a gorgeous and memorable wedding! We will definatley be returning. I can only guess if the breakfast was that good what dinner would be like!!! Thank you for making our experience there a memorable one!

“NO privacy - Not honeymoon friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

Basically...it's... a really neat old place but WAY overpriced, has great food IF you go on a day when the chef is there, has great hot tubs IF you can stand the stinky water, has "fine soap, lotions and specialty bubble bath" BUT you'll still stink like the well water and get dry skin, has a wonderful variety of rooms IF you don't mind walking outside and up to the house for breakfast each a.m., has "fresh baked cookies" BUT you'll never get them, has a very polite staff BUT they might walk into your LOCKED room without knocking or announcing themselves in any way. I'd pay $100/night, as long as the incredible chef guy is there. It 'd be nice for a weekend get-away. Has potential to be a very intimate, romantic, charming place with some renovations, TLC and a little more attention to detail when cleaning.

WELL WATER ALERT! The "house" is awesome! DEFinitely overpriced, but very quaint, old world, Victorian, and country cottage all in one. A really neat getaway spot! Wish I wasn't there for my honeymoon, though. Unless you're the only ones in the house, everyone there will know what you're doing- if you know what I mean. You can hear everything- tv's, conversations, staff, and especially any movements. Squeakiest floors in the history of squeaky floors! Normally not a problem, but these are LOUD squeaks and creaks. I mean louuud. When someone goes potty in the middle of the night, you'll know it. Also, being our honeymoon, we kinda wanted to sleep in, but noooo. It sounds like a heard of elephants above your head all morning (in the Cherry Suite). And it starts early. Also, their webpage says "Fresh Baked Cookies" under amenities. We never got any and we were there 2 nights. Breakfast was AWESOME! Everything in it's own special little bowl, food I never heard of, fruit cut in fancy ways...etc. That part was lovely and made us feel special. We thoroughly enjoyed that. Then, on day two, the awesome, funny, world-class chef guy wasn't there and some woman (maybe manager, maybe owner- not sure) cooked our breakfast. It was terrible. We had rubber eggs and really dry muffins. Bleh! Isn't it a major oversight at a B&B to NOT have a chef on staff some days? One of things you should be specializing in at a B&B is the breakfast. The other is the bed. Ours was lumpy, saggy and old. The "suite" itself was really neat. Very large and roomy.Plus, at a B&B, the Breakfast is one of things you should be specializing in. The other is the bed. Ours was lumpy, saggy and old. The "suite" itself was really neat. Very large and roomy. Plus, it was in the basement, so we felt like we were in our own little world. However, if you don't like dust, cobwebs, cement floors, and the thick smell of wood smoke, don't stay here. This room is a little "basement-y." Worst thing was the water. Hellooo rotten egg smell! Yikes! They don't tell you on their web-site that it's well water. I'm from the area and everyone I know has well water, but this stuff STINKS! Even the bubblebath soaps don't cover the smell. After 2 nights here, we moved to the King Louis Suite for 2 more nights, hoping for better water quality because it's not in the basement. Water still was gross, but the room was awesome! It was very fairy-tale-ish. That was fun for me. But, the 2 chairs shown in picture #3 for this room (by the little round table at the foot of the bed), were not there. Good thing it was our honeymoon, because we had to stay in the bed for 3 days with nowhere to sit. At least this bed was MUCH nicer. Firm and level and not sqeaky at all. We slept so good in this room. However, this room is in an out-building (think fancy barn), NOT attached to the main house, so you have to walk OUTSIDE and up the driveway (no sidewalk) to get to the house for your breakfast in the morning. NOT fun in the middle of winter. We almost blew away both mornings, AND had to eat breakfast with cold, wet feet because we didn't know we'd need snow boots to get to breakfast. Shouldn't that be in the room description somewhere? "Will have to go for a short hike to get breakfast, please dress accordingly." Have I mentioned it was our honeymoon? Well, I also told everyone on the property every time I saw ANYone. You would think they would know NOT to enter our room unannounced. Also, isn't it customary to KNOCK before entering a room, pretty much everywhere in the world, but ESPECIALLY in a hotel-type place?! Shockingly, and much to our dismay, (among other feelings- embarrassment & anger for example) A STAFF GIRL WALKED RIGHT INTO OUR ROOM!! Locking your door means nothing here. They have the same electronic key as you. Luckily we weren't...umm..."doing anything" at that exact moment. BUT I was naked and NOT covered in any way!!! It was definitely less than great running into her in the halls the next couple of days! If I wasn't so embarrassed, I'd have marched right up to the desk and demanded our last night free. Also, our "Fresh Baked Cookies" in this room were nowhere to be found, as well.
