Myself and my wife stayed three nights at Papillon as the final stop on our three week honeymoon in Northern Queensland and we selected it because of prior reviews on TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed and hosts Maureen and Stephen made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. The location is ideal for touring the Daintree which was our major objective for this leg of the trip plus it was easy to get into Port Douglas and even to Karunda which we did one day to do last minute memento purchasing.
Breakfasts were fresh and extensive and the gardens surrounding the house have been beautifully planted by the owners. It rained for two of the three days we were there (it is a tropical rainforest after all!) but it didn't stop us relaxing in the private pool right outside the room, lazing in the hammocks or watching a DVD from the library in the main house.
Let Maureen and Stephen be good guides as well if you need suggestions on where to eat, things to see or where to buy something local. Our trip to Karunda was on their suggestion to find aboriginal art and while we thought Karunda would be tacky, it was a pleasant town and we were successful in finding three small paintings that we have framed together now.
Best surprise - all the little statues they have in their gardens
Worst surprise - the small sugar ants found the cake Maureen had left for us the first night (after that it was safe in the refridgerator!)
