“Sleeping in the jungle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2010

Early in December 2009 we have stayed for three nights at the Papillion B&B. It is a very nice B&B, the room was fairly small, but adequate, very clean and well maintained. The house is located in a charming garden, so that you can have the feeling of being right in the jungle.
The breakfast was absolutely brilliant, there were plenty of fresh fruits and warm bread and selfmade muffins. All was done very carefully. Stephen and Maureen were very friendly and helpful and gave us many valuable tips for our trips.
The Pappillion BB was one of the best accomodation we have had on our 7 week trip to Australia. We would like to come back any time. Many thanks to Stephen and Maureen.

“Paradise in North Queensland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2010

If you are looking for a great place to stay near the Daintree Rain Forest and Cape Tribulation, you could not ask for a better spot. My husband and I just returned from a world wind trip to Australia and we are so glad we found this little piece of paradise located in Mossman. Our hosts, Stephen and Maureen, provided us with insightful and useful information about the area from the minute I sent my first email. Even though we had many options of places to stay in the area, I chose Papillon because I could tell from our correspondence how friendly and helpful the owners would be. Their beautiful Bali-style house (lots of open air and porches) is set amongst a huge garden with lots of flowering plants and birds. Our bedroom, located on the bottom floor, looked out to the gardens and pool. Because we were the only ones staying there at the time, we had the entire downstairs area to ourselves. We left the doors open and just used the screens so we could here the rain and the wildlife. It was like sleeping outside, but protected from the elements. Just what a stay in the rainforest should be! Because our spot was so nice, we would order take away food every night and eat on our deck with a bottle of wine and candlelight and listen to nature. The breakfasts were fabulous with lots of fresh fruits, toasts, muffins, jams and cereals. They are happy to arrange any tours you may want as well. Stay here. You won't be sorry!

“Simply, the BEST!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2010

We traveled all over Australia and New Zealand and we found Papillion to be the best bed and breakfast we stayed at. The hosts Maureen and Stephen were intelligent, helpful and anticipated our needs and offered their guidance willingly. The breakfast was tasty and delightfully presented. The swimming pool was an added plus and wildlife was all around us. We were very grateful to have found Papillion and its hosts. We highly recommend this tropical delight.

“Beautiful room with a private pool, friendly helpful owners and a huge delicious breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2010

You arrive at Papillon bed and breakfast and feel like your in a tropical paradise. The owners house and and the two guest rooms are set in about half an acre of tropical gardens with lots of flowers and lush foliage. There are many birds and we spotted the beautiful blue ulyses butterfly. The two guest rooms are across a deck to the private infinity pool which is on the same level. The owners house is set up behind you so you can't see each other and you are not overlooked. Taking a dip in the pool before breakfast and at night was great and our 18 month old loved it.

We stayed as a couple in one room and my father in the other. Our daughter is 18 months old but she still sleeps in our bed when we are traveling for ease although there is room on the floor for a travel cot we just find it easier.

Breakfast was amazing a large selection of tropical fruit and yoghurt. Cereals and a basket of hot baked rolls and pastries with jam. There was also a cooked breakfast if you had room.

The B&B is in Mossman a small town with a supermarket, about 3 restaurants we counted and some other shops. For more choice there is nearby Port Douglas which is where we went diving the great barrier reef from. The owners recommended a company to go with which was good. They have good experience of what is available and were willing to help choose and book excursions for us which made things easier.

We found lots to do in Mossman gorge and particularly enjoyed the very close tropical fruit farm shop with many weird and wonderful offerings. There are lots of little signs that take you this way and that to see sites just off the main road. A little north we went walking in the tropical forests and even saw a wild Cassowary which was a real treat.

We went in the middle of the wet season, and when we got home, to walk into the air conditioned room was a fantastic feeling. We ate at a nearby restaurant or got takeaways and brought them back to eat on our deck as we had a fridge and there are plates and cutlery to use. There is a book shelf to choose from although we didn't have time.

The bathroom with shower is small but in such heat we used it regularly and there were always lots of fresh dry towels. The room and linen were very clean and tidy much more towards the luxury end of B&B's. There was our own parking space and stairs to the rooms.

I would recommend this place to our friends and found it one of the highlights of our 2 weeks trip around Australia.

“What a fantastic hidaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2010

Papillon offered us a peaceful and excellent first experience of Australia well off the beaten track, staying three nights in the middle of February. Maureen and Stephen were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome as we walked down the stairs following a very long flight. The room was large with excellent attention to detail, including a small fridge, cutlery, glasses and with locally produced teas & coffees. Even the hammock was so relaxing to lie in. The pool was lovely, very clean, with lots of spots to sit and relax to enjoy the local exotic birds and garden flowers. The breakfast each morning was huge and delicious, which a large fresh fruit platter, local yoghurt and breads which we thoroughly enjoyed each morning whilst chatting to our hosts.
Maureen and Stephen gave us so much information on where to go and even organised our snorkelling trip to the barrier reef which we would recommend to anybody. This ensured that our time with them was so enjoyable given the inclement weather during our stay. This was most appreciated so we would highly recommend. Papillon as an excellent place to chill out and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.
