I spent two months living in Kingaroy for work, and found plenty to do on weekends.
Here are some of the fun things I did:
- Wine tasting at the wineries outside Kingaroy and near Murgon (30 mins north)
- Cheese and fudge tasting at the Kingaroy Cheese Factory on William Street
- Visited the Art gallery and Heritage museum at the visitor centre
- Walked up to Apex park and looked at Kingaroy from the lookout
- Went up to Mt. Wooroolin and looked from that lookout
- Went out to Artist's cottage on the road to Cooyar and looked at the art there
- Drove to Maidenwell and went to a star-gazing show at the Maidenwell Observatory (beautiful!)
- Visited the suspension bridge at Cooyar (and saw a platypus)
- Went to Coomba falls just near Maidenwell (a short drive then walk, then peaceful and beautiful rock pool with falls)
- Went gliding over Kingaroy in a glider, from the airport (best view)
- Drove to the Bunya mountains (about 1 hour south-west) and did some walks (beautiful scenery)
- Ate at the Bell Tower restaurant, just outside Kingaroy (lovely view)
There is plenty do to for a weekend away (or two). Adventurous things like walking or gliding, or relaxing things like good wine and food make Kingaroy and the region around it a pleasant and easy escape from Brisbane.
