Stayed at Sails on Horseshoe for 3 nights in July 2009. Had a great little 1 bedroom ocean front apartment on the ground floor. The location is sensational. An easy walk from the bus stop at Horseshoe Bay and brilliant views from the front door. Across the road and you're on the beach. Perfect.
Apartment 5 is well kitted out with most mod-cons including a washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, sound system, and disappointingly out of place, an old television with a remote that didn't work. If you're on Magnetic Island after dark, there's not an awful lot to do, so the telly could do with an upgrade!
The negatives to my stay were a very uncomfortable, old bed that moved all over the place when you as much as leant on it. It also annoyingly scraped on the floor everytime it moved a centimetre. Bedspread and curtains need an urgent update to something a little fresher.
The bathroom floor didn't feel like it had been cleaned before I moved in - was all very gritty and sandy. Maybe part of the beach feel?!
Given the apartment wasn't serviced unless you stayed more than 7 days, the four tissues that were supplied, didn't really go the distance. And the half a roll of toilet paper had limited shelf life! They sneakily give you a spare roll, but it's the cheapest, nastiest paper, you might as well go and take some leaves of the palm trees to use. You then get slugged extra money if you choose to top up your supplies through reception. My toilet seat was broken too - it didn't sit square on the bowl.
Apartment 5 came complete with a spa bath if you're into that kind of thing.
Sofa appeared to need a good clean. Dirty cleverly disguised in the navy blue upholstery.
If you're on the ground floor, you can hear every footstep and every piece of furniture being moved around in the apartment above which can become very annoying.
The only other minor concern were the dodgy locks on the front sliding door and flyscreen. Be careful when you leave that you check they've locked properly.
Overall, great location. Really well kitted out apartment with all facilities you'd need but needs a little bit spending on the furnishings to give it a modern feel.
