“Nice but a few but's....”

The villa's are in Nelly Bay close to the ferry. We stayed in villa 6 next to the pool. The villa was very spacious with two bed rooms, two bath rooms and laundry. The pool was small but good and hardly any one else. Walking distance to the supermarket and some restaurants. We stayed in December so no swimming possible due to the stingers in the water. The other issue were the flies who attack you and bite. This made hiking impossible as sitting outside. We had a couple of relaxing days but Magnetic Island is not paradise.

The lounge set inside is crap to sit on and the place needs some maintaince. Old plants, dust on the fly screens, etc.

It is pricy to stay here but it is a nice accommodation. So can recommend this accommodation but the island visit was a one time only.

Thank you for your review and we appreciate your comments and take them and all other reviews seriously.
Pure Magnetic has now been open for 4 years and we acknowledge that after 3 years of near perfect reviews we have taken note of the 3 or 4 more recent views siting maintenance issues. While everyone acknowledges what a beautiful place Pure Magnetic is, the last thing we want is the property to feel or look tired in any respect.
We are pleased to say that we are acting on your recent reviews and have commenced an upgrade to the villas, the pool area and the gardens to address all points raised by our guests.
The villas will have upgrades inside and out including all new indoor lounges, lamps, outdoor lounges, courtyard dining sets, floors re-polished and more. Things are already underway and villas 1 through to 6 will be upgraded in the next few weeks and be concluded by the end of February. The tropical gardens are a great feature of this property but we will be making sure they look spectacular with some wet season maintenance over the next month including private courtyard makeovers with new plantings for added shade and privacy.
We feel that the many typical concrete apartments now on Magnetic island lack any feel for the island or its beautiful environment, a place like Pure Magnetic is an important alternative for those travelers who want the "look and feel" of a tropical island holiday.
Be assured we hear what you say and will continue to respond actively to your comments.

“Honeymoon made in heaven!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Came here with my husband for our honeymoon earlier this year. I have to say- the place is stunning. It's in a quiet location but things are easily accessible (nearby eateries, foodworks, massage place etc). The bungalow was very clean and everything worked fine. The only minor problem was that the en suite toliet was running everytime it got flushed so we had to manually stop that by lifting the lid and adjusting the flushing mechanism each time. Very minor issue and certainly did not detract from the overall enjoyment of our stay there. The beach is a stones throw away from the front of the bungalows and the front bungalows would certainly be wonderful for that reason! We stayed in one at the back of the property. The pool was warm and clean and a pleasure to use! Would definitely recommend to others and will stay again! :)

I recently stayed in Villa 3 at Pure Magnetic, and think the previous review was very harsh, what absolute magic they are spacious comfortable and very clean. We certainly did not have any issues with any electricals as per a previous review. Pam picked us up from the terminal and was extremely pleasant and professional and very knowledgeable about the island. What a fantasic way to relax sitting on the balcony ,where you still have a view of the ocean and the sunsets. The units were very clean, well equipped and the beds very comfortable like sinking into a cloud. The island has lots of things to do depending on what you like, if you are looking for the Gold Coast this is not it, but there is so many lovely walks, lots of water sports and Fishing charters(I would recommend Awesome Sportfishing Charters) and relaxing by the pool . I would highly recommend Villa 3 for price and location. Fantasic Holiday thank you pure Magnetic , I will be back.

Room Tip: Any of the first four units are great !!!! you still have a view of the ocean

“Major electrical issues, but a beautiful place...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

We were intially impressed with the beautiful villa 3 with its balinese feel. However within 20 minutes of arriving our 4 year old grandson turned off a lamp which was on when we arrived and the electric cable came off, causing a huge spark. Luckily he was not electricuted, but this gave him a huge fright and left a black mark on his hand. We checked all the electric cables to all lamps and found 2 more lamps with exposed wires. We immediately called Pam and she came and took the faulty lamps, but no apology or concern. We were quite shocked. We then proceeded to find other maintenance issues including a number of light bulbs out, the bath changeover valve was stuck, so you could only fill the bath with the shower attachment, the BBQ ignition button was missing and the villa wasn't very clean (we found rubbish and dust under the furniture). The rest of the week was less eventful. The villas are in a beautiful place and even in villa 3 you see the sea and beach, plus we had the pool right behind us. It is small, but not many people in it. There were some loose tiles by the pool, which could be a safety concern, but generally ok. The gardens are well kept and have many frangapani trees and other tropical plants. You hear many different kinds of birds here, some quite noisy, such as the curlew which starts at night... you get use to its whaling noise! One week was enough for us here. There's not a great deal to do here. We rented a Mini Moke for 3 days to see the other bays, Horseshoe bay is the best with more to do and a good beach. Its a shame Nelly Bay doesn't have a swimming enclosure as more people would stay at this beach. There are some good restaurants within walking distance; the Pizza & Pasta one by Foodworks and Man Friday had some excellent food, not much to look at but both worth it and quite cheap. Pure Magnetic has to do some serious maintenance work to these villas before we would return again. What a shame.....

Room Tip: Not Villa 3

“Beautiful place with some major maintenance issues”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011 via mobile

I stayed in villa 1 and while it was beautiful there were lots of maintenance issues, some were minor but others impacted the enjoyment of our stay.

For example the bed was so squeaky that if you rolled over, it squeaked loud enough to wake my partner up, not very romantic! It was also really uncomfortable. The bed frame needs to be repaired and the mattress needs to be replaced. The light bulb above the mirror in the bathroom was missing which meant there wasn't enough light to apply makeup etc. The toilet seat also had a bolt missing to attach it to the toilet so if you weren't careful you would slide off the toilet with the seat. In the ensuite the screw that holds the shower head open was stuck so the shower head was permanently flopped down which made washing your hair a logistical nightmare as you needed one hand to hold the shower head up. We didnt complain to management as we were only staying for two nights but seeing as we paid nearly $300 a night for the best villa it really wasn't good enough.

We also had some minor service complaints. For example Pam was 20 minutes late picking us up from the ferry terminal which wasn't the best way to start our getaway. Also we had some friends who were also a couple who decided to come for a visit (we are townsville locals) at the last minute and would be arriving on the second night of our stay. When we informed management they said it would cost extra if we wanted the second bedroom converted from two singles into a king even though our room hadn't been serviced yet. I thought this was rather petty especially for the price we paid.

Despite my complaints I thought the place was beautiful. The gardens were tropical and gave the place a great ambience, the pool nice but a bit small and the villa was large and beautifully furnished. The view was spectacular and it really is worth paying extra for villas one and two. The complex is also in walking distance to a small supermarket, a bottle shop and a few restaraunts but we hired a mini mole which was great fun but expensive.

If maintenance issues are fixed we would make pure magnetic our regular accommodation for weekend getaways otherwise we will probably not return.
