An absolutely awful experience...the resort is run down, several areas were cordoned off with 'danger' tape...the stairways had collapsed, bridges fallen down, the pool deck rotting...the pool was cracked, and tables had been placed over the broken edging to disguise it. Electrical light fittings on pathways broken, with wires hanging out. the spa pool was half fullof water & rotting palm fronds...alive with mozzies, Light fittings in the room were missing shades, the bedside table looked like it had lost all its varnish about ten years ago, there was a hole in the wall where an unsuccessful airconditioner repair had been left...wiring & pipes exposed. No help with luggage, and some of the paths & steps are so steep that anyone less than Tarzan would find it unclimable. The 'restaurant ' is over the road, some hundreds of metres from the cabins, and is so dirty as to be unbelievable...being stuck there on a wet day, with the Coopers Creek ford impassable, was so depressing...five chess pieces & an empty scrabble box were all the guest facilities provided....I could just go on and on...we escaped after one night, and headed back to the comfort and facilities of Port Douglas...we came to see the rainforest, and no doubt it is superb, but we just wanted to get out of this crummy decrepit resort...maybe they should film some post-apocalypse movie here....

We are very disappointed to hear of the dissatisfaction regarding your recent stay at Cape Tribulation Resort & Spa.
Reviewing the comments, I would like to respond to the areas highlighted in this review.
We do have one stair way at the back of the Cascade Pool which has been blocked off due to safety concerns, which leads to our pool pump area. The bridge that was referred to as falling down is no longer in use due to the impact that the repair would have on the rainforest environment, and the pool decking commented as rotting, was replaced with new timber less than 6 months ago and is in very good repair. The tables that are on the pool decking are not to disguise the commented “broken edging”, but are in place to protect access to the pool skimmer units that are around the Cascade pool.
The “Spa Pool” as referred to in the comments is not actually a pool at all, and does not advertise itself to the fact that it is a swimming pool. It is in fact a natural water feature which houses small fish life, natural rainforest plants and will soon be home to some very beautiful water lily’s. This water feature is fenced on all access sides to prevent any person misinterpreting this feature as a swimming pool.
Comments on the room feature conditions & other maintenance issues we would love further details about, as I am unable to ascertain which room you were accommodated in during your stay at the resort and will investigate & follow up with these issues once this information is known.
Cape Tribulation Resort & Spa is set in amongst lush tropical rainforest and as such, our pathways and buildings follow the natural contour of the rainforest floor. Yes there are some pathways that do contain an incline however the comment “anyone less than Tarzan would find it unclimbable” lends its self to picturing a very steep rugged path, which we certainly do not have. The stairs to the rooms are necessary, and certainly are not any steeper than regular household stairs, as the rooms are built up off the rainforest floor to minimise the impact on the natural environment.
The Cape Restaurant is situated across the road right on the beach and has a wonderful boardwalk which takes you across wet riparian rainforest before reaching the restaurant. This is a natural feature of the Daintree Rainforest and the elevated boardwalk facilitates an easy access and viewing of this area.
The comments state that the restaurant was “so dirty”. On the day this is in reference to, Cape Tribulation experienced some of the heaviest rain and wind this season. As the Restaurant is just off the beach this can cause falling leaves and sea mist to be around the restaurant. Our staff do take every opportunity to clean up leaves and sand that have been brought inside by shoes and wind, however as you can appreciate, during bad weather this is an ongoing task.
Coopers Creek causeway is now under construction for a new cause way to elevate the road to a point where flooding is unlikely in any weather. This will be a great asset to the Cape Tribulation area and will prevent situations like these from happening in the future. There is currently 1 elevated lane open now and the 2nd to be completed soon.
Cape Tribulation Resort & Spa is an eco resort covering aprox 5HA. Our rooms are nestled within the littoral rainforest under the rainforest canopy. Cape Tribulation Resort & Spa has the honour of being the only resort in Cape Tribulation where the guests can stay within closed canopy littoral forest and easily walk through wet riparian zones via a raised walkway through to our spectacular restaurant overlooking Coconut Beach to the Coral Sea.
Once again, we are very disappointed that you have not enjoyed your stay at Cape Tribulation Resort & Spa, should you wish to contact the resort regarding your comments, please do so on rowanhawke@oceanhotels.com.au . In addition, the photos taken are off 1, the restaurant entrance light which would appear to have been vandalised, 2, the water feature at the Round House, 3, This is our pool pump area and is not a guest area, nor is it advertised as one, 4, safety barrier to prevent access to the bridge (for guest and staff safety)
