My husband and I did a snorkelling tour with Ocean Safari. It was fantastic. The boat to the reef goes straight off cape tribulation beach (amazing place in itself) and only carried about 20 people.

The day we went we went to 2 different snorkel sights on the same reef, but this gave us two quite different experiences. The crew were friendly and took account of the choppy weather in selecting the spots. The trip out to the reef only took about 30 minutes but was not for the faint hearted and it's on a rigid inflatable and there was a lot of bouncing over the waves. You also just jump straight off the boat and into the water, so there is nowhere to hide if you get seasick!

The day we were there we saw heaps of fish and coral, reef sharks and sea turtles. Just amazing!

This is a fab half day trip out to the reef. The whole set-up, from beginning to end, was well organised and hassle-free, and had a really special buzz about the whole experience. The team at the office were friendly and helpful, and the 2 guys on board, Capt Luke and Bryn, were very professional, informative and great fun to be with. From the point of view of someone who gets seasick easily, this short half hour trip out to Mackay Reef was bliss. Not a hint of nausea. Looking back to the views of the beach and rainforest was sublime. The fact that we saw a dolphin on the way was an added bonus.
Once out there, all the equipment is provided: stinger suit, snorkelling gear, flotation aid (noodle) to help the likes of me, a complete novice, to get the hang of it, and a life buoy with helpful guide attached (Bryn!). The under-water camera is definitely worth buying, as our photos came out well. Nothing is too much trouble. The instructions very clear and I felt very safe. Whilst there, we were completely on our own, and the size of the group (15) meant we had plenty of space to explore.
As hoped for, we saw lots of colourful fish, (including a nemo!), blue starfish, rays, turtles, giant clams and a white tipped reef shark – yikes! However, i was assured they are completely harmless and to prove it, it didn’t eat anyone.
I would not hesitate in recommending this trip to anyone, and you guys at Ocean Safari should congratulate yourselves on having such a successful set-up. Thank you for an fantastic trip. We hope we’ll be back one day soon!

For first time snorklers and experienced ones...if you wish to see lif on the Great Barrier Reef...Ocean safaris is the way to go.

A brilliant time out on the reef. Very professionally run, great boat very quick and comfortable ride out to the reef. The staff were very helpful and freindly which really made the trip all that much more special.

Fantastic experience snorkelling on the reef, excellent quality of corals and fishlife. The staff made me feel very comfortable in the water and answered all my questions about different fish etc.
