“Gorgeous Cottage! We will definitely be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

We stayed two nights in the Garden Spa Apartment in July 2010. The owner David was away that weekend so his friend (I can't remember her name, but she was a lovely lady) showed us in. As David was away, we weren't able to get the breakfast that was included in our package so we were given two vouchers for a lovely cafe in Daylesford which we were really happy with.
The shower is massive as is the spa, and it has windows all above it so you can see the stars while in the spa! very nice.
The fire place kept the place really nice and warm and we didn't need to use the heater.
It also had a lovely little veranda with table and chairs out the back.
It is a little bit of a walk to the main street, but Daylesford is so lovely you hardly mind.

It was very private and romantic, my fiancée actually proposed there on the Saturday morning!
So we will definitely be back, such great memories.

“Certainly not a doily in sight!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2010

The tag line of the Cherry Tree website claims that it is not a traditional B&B because there are no doilies or frilly bits - it's true! Cherry Tree is set on a normal residental street and the B&B is a purpose built extension to a regular home. Built by owner David, the main house has two identical bedrooms (one up, one downstairs) and a shared loung area with sofa's, a little TV and a nice log fire. We took the upstairs room and it was very comfortable.

We especially enjoyed the cooked breakfast, the port and chocolates in the evening, and the great music collection and fire in the evenings. If you want a relaxing weekend away with your partner, this is a good place to come. It's very private and the B&B owner David keeps out of the way.

My only suggestions of areas where Cherry Tree could improve would be having proper doors to the toilets in the bedrooms (saloon style swing doors with a bit of a gap in the middle - make sure you're comfortable with your roommate!) and maybe to have TVs in the bedrooms.

There is also a garden apartment, which is self contained - we didn't see that.

In Daylesford we had two delicious dinners - one at the Lake House for $95 a head and one equally amazing at Koulka pizza place for $30 a head! Try both :-)

“In need of a bit of attention”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2009

We stayed in the self contained cottage part of this establishment. This place had a wonderful spa bath....with a slow slow fill up time.It had a marvelous double person shower....with not enough pressure. The wood fire burner was just wonderful and we never once turned on the wall heater. We had just enough wood to burn for our stay. The breakfast was pleasant not super dooper or anything.
I give it a tepid review for the reason that ,we chose it for the bath and the fire....particularly the bathing aspects. However the room was not tidied between our two nights stay.....towels not changed, wood not restacked. And the surfaces were dusty and the place as in need of a bit or a freshen up.Would recommend it to friend on the one hand but a bit reserved to on the other.May have just been a bad time for the host, speaking of whom, was a lovely chap who left us to our own devices and privacy.Perhaps we could have requested the tidy up.
Dont try it if you want to have a slightly dated late nineties dusty decor with ineffectual plumbing.Do try it if you like a bit of P&Q and a nice host who is willing to assist should you so require.

“Privacy, romance, luxury!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2009

I read the last review the day we were booked to go to Cherrytree, and I was nervous that it would be like the review, rather than our expectations. Luckily, it was neither, as it was nothing like the review, and exceeded our expectations!!! The room was just lovely, private and so comfortable. We felt so at home! The spa is amazing, and the room is thoughtfully laid out, with everything you could want for a romantic escape. The bed was indeed 2 singles pushed together, but it's exceptionally comfy (we have a king sized bed at home, so we're pretty picky)!! The kitchen isn't set up for cooking (it has a microwave, fridge, cutlery etc but no oven) - but we wanted to go away and NOT cook!! So it was perfect!
The heater is on the wall, and does a great job of heating the apartment, but for the ambiance and extra toastiness, there's a potbelly fire, with plenty of wood provided to set it up. It was only 2 degrees on the nights we were there, and we were roasty toasty in our room!!!
The only thing we would change is the toilet set up. You need to be very comfortable with your partner, as there's no wall for silence!!!
Overall, the apartment was beyond what we expected, the price was a bargain, the service was exceptional, and the brekkie amazing. Make sure to ask David to book you a massage - you'll love it!!! Oh, and you get your own private driveway and car space!! Bonus!
We had the most amazing, romantic weekend away, and we will be back again for sure. Cherrytree would have to be the best B&B we've stayed at in Victoria!!

“Good service, but room overrated”

We booked the Garden Spa Apartment for a romantic weekend away from home. Whilst the apartment offered everything the website promised, it did so to a lesser degree than we expected.

The king sized bed is actually two mattresses pushed together (Euro-style bedding) and although it's not uncomfortable, it wasn't what we were expecting. The lounge-kitchen area offers only limited cooking facilities. There is no oven or stove, just a microwave, kettle and toaster. The PlayStation is the first edition that was released in the mid-1990s.

The apartment itself is one room. A wall divides the kitchen and bathroom but there are no internal doors (so don't travel with anyone you're not comfortable with!)

We travelled in winter and the room was freezing! There's a wall heater that does an average job of heating the place. It makes a beeping noise when it switches off which kept waking us during the night. The fireplace is great, but the wood provided was damp! We could only have a fire the second night after we had bought firelighters and let the wood dry.

It's not all bad though. The spa is deep and the glass ceiling adds to the atmosphere. The room's decor is unique and the breakfast is both filling and tasty. David the owner is a real pleasure to deal with.

If you're looking for things to do; Sault is a nearby restaurant with great food in a very romantic setting. Make sure you visit the recently-opened Daylesford Cider Company and the Chocolate Mill (both can be done in an hour, including travel time). If you visit the Sunday Market make sure you buy some of O'Tooles honey.
