We take weekend breaks in Daylesford on a regular basis and Azidene is our favorite place to stay. You couldn't hope for a better location to everything. While they provide the makings for breakfast it is only a very short stroll to cafes and restaurants. Azidene is what it is a great place to rest and relax, comfortable and with a cosy at home feeling. Its best part is the fact it is older and inviting. When we stay anywhere we seek out a homely place not a pretentious cold boutique and homely describes Azidene to a "T". The price is perfect for what you get. Daylesford accomadation can be expensive and for the extra dollars you pay to stay elsewhere in Daylesford you do get a fresher newer feel. Azidene is location, location, location and a taste of the old.

After the excellent reviews we had great expectations.

The entire complex is in need of maintenance. The garden is very sad and the building desperately needs painting. The walk from the driveway to the front door is quite dangerous, especially after rain. We returned from dinner after dark and there are no lights at all and the path and lawn were very slippery.

The security of the doors and windows is virtually non existent with very flimsy door and window locks. If you go out, the curtain on the main clear glass door pulls across from the inside, so cannot be used.

Inside the apartment is no better. The carpet is torn in several places, there are cracked tiles around some of the taps, and part of the bathroom door has not even been painted. This same door is so noisy it must wake up other guests. Again, painting of the entire interior is desperately required. There is one very small wardrobe for two people, one door does not open and the other one cannot be closed because the clothes hangers are too wide. We ended up putting our clothes on the lounge - hardly satisfactory. The TV is very old and tiny.

Breakfast provisions were left in the room. Cereal and jams were normal packets and jars from the supermarket. Would have expected better. Also, several of the plates and coffee plunger needed washing before use.

Worst B&B we have experienced anywhere.

Stayed there with girlfriend (now fiancee after our trip to Azidene!) and had a great weekend. Darren was really kind to help out with a few details for the proposal and just had a really great, relaxed weekend up there. Would definitely stay there again next time we need a weekend away!

We were delighted we had chosen Azidene Spa for our one week get away. It really was lovely and restful and Darren couldn't have been more helpful in getting us settled and offering suggestions for cafes and restaurants. The web site says "glimpses of the lake",so I was surprised that there was in fact a lovely view down the hill to the lake,of cottages with smoke curling out of the chimneys in amongst beautiful trees. Really felt we were out in the country, a very restful scene. The apartment was warm and cosy with a great spa bath and we loved the old Metters Kooka stove which was functioning to cook our bacon and eggs on. We loved that you could walk up to the main street, but was still very restful and quiet where we were. We had a lovely walk around the lake, finishing with hot chocolate at The Boat House (just great). Darren's suggestion of Daylesford spa was fabulous for a spa and massage, highly recommend. We loved the Farmers Arms hotel for a pub meal and Grace Notes cafe with its open fire lovely for a coffee stop. The Convent Gallery is a must to visit especially if you add lunch and a glass of wine. Also spoiled ourselves with breakfast at The Lake House one morning. Sounds like all we did was eat, but it was one of those weeks. We also managed some nice walks, a little shopping, nice drives and a visit to Creswick Woollen Mills. All in all a lovely romantic week away. Would definately stay again and recommend to friends.
