“Thought I was in Thailand again”

My partner and myself were looking for something a bit differant and we found it!
Amazing, having stoped in Thailand on our way to Australia we couldn't believe this was a little bit of asia in Daylesford.

The villa we stayed (silk) had timber floors high church ceilings, beautiful rugs and comfy furniture, and an open fire which was cosy and fun! Giving us the feeling that we where back in Thailand... With romantic walks in the garden, and secluded area's where to sit and just listen to the birds and nature. Such a peaceful and memorable experience.

We arrived and waiting was a compliment pack with Thai beer, nuts, potato and banana chips which was great to get into the mood for what really was a special celebration for us both.

We where also surprised as there was a full kitchen... As we where there for a couple of days and being from Berlin we wanted to experience the cafe lifestyle of having breakfast along the street, which was only 5 mins walk away. With all the historical buildings and markets.

The evening's where lit with a fire and having music played and sitting on the comfortable furniture and just looking out the window and seeing nature do its thing... Also another memorable thing that was there was the centre of the house had a pond that where filled with fish, such a peaceful and relaxing feeling... sitting there and just watching the fish with a nice glass of wine.

Breakfast stuff including cereals, juice, milk, plunger coffee etc was just enough to get the day started, before a wander around the lake which is almost just accross the road.

Loved it, shame its only 20,000 miles from Berlin or yes l would be back!

Memorable, romantic and lots of little extra touches!

“Thai-style hospitality somewhat lacking”

We stayed in Thai Silk for a weekend. It is literally across the road from Lake House, which was part of the attraction for us, as we were attending a dinner there. The two villas, Thai Silk and Thai Orchid, are two Ls that meet at each end around an attractive central pool with fish. There are privacy screens but I can't imagine really using the shared area unless the other villa was vacant.

The villas are panelled in dark wood with high ceilings and have lots of Thai images and furnishings - the three-corner pillows are great for lounging in front of the fire. Our villas was nicely appointed but very dark inside (would be good in summer I guess). The spa is an oval bath, quite nice but unfortunately without a window to look out of, which is a pity as the garden was stunning in autumn.

As we were flying in late at night, we organised an antipasto platter from Gourmet Larder to be in the villa on our arrival, which was very tasty although pricey. The supplied breakfast provisions for the first day, advertised elsewhere as a 'full breakfast', are cereal and orange juice. There was supposed to be bread but it was forgotten - it was provided later in the day. This is not my interpretation of a full breakfast, sadly. Usually we would bring provisions but we were flying in so this was not feasible, and I was glad we had not relied on there being eggs etc to make our own supper.

The Thai-style welcome hamper was a series of Asian-themed items in an oval dish (well-labelled so that you don't take the dish with you!) This is a cute idea but not really of practical use - realistically, what are you going to do with a large tin of lychees? I imagine most of the contents get recycled from guest to guest as they are not necessarily going to meet the tastes of many guests.

We enquired about additional wood as there was none outside the cottage, only what was in the bucket next to the fire, but none was provided. Cutting down on breakfast and wood in a competitive market like Daylesford strikes me as being stingy. Yes, we could have bought wood up at the petrol station and gone out for breakfast (except we had car trouble, so had to wait for the RACV), but when these things are promised it's disappointing, especially as the properties in this area are not cheap.

The property suited our purposes in being close to Lake House, with a spa and wood fire, but I would stay somewhere else next time.
