“Couldn't have asked for more!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

What a wonderful B&B! Kathryn was a superb host and gave us a lovely warm welcome. The room was spotless, comfortable and had every convenience you could ask for. There was an excellent slection of DVDs to watch including 'All creatures great and small!' We were offered fresh milk for our tea and coffee on arrival and given the use of a 10% off food voucher for the 'Golden Fleece' which we highly recommend. (situated a 5 min walk from the B&B) The breakfast was delicious and there was a good choice of local produce including honey, granola, sausages, bacon, eggs etc. We found a car park 5 minutes walk from the B&B which was only £1.50 for a day and free on Sundays. We only had time to stay for one night but would not hesitate to go back and highly recommend to everyone!

Room Tip: We had room one which was at the front of the property. Even though it was a Saturday night there wa...

We're glad you enjoyed your stay and your meal at The Golden Fleece (we love it there too!). Just a note to other future guests, free parking is available on Kirkgate from 4pm through to 10am the next day, with a disc displayed.

“Good Yorkshire welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Kathryn has an excellently run B&B. She is helpful, the roon was spotless, the breakfast was all fresh locally produced food. Thirsk is central to touring much of the North Yorkshire Moors, Vale of York and the Eastern parts of the Yorkshire Dales and you will find lots of helpful information available for you. We concur with all the other positive comments made by others, it was because of these very good ones, that we booked this accommadation and would recommend it to others.

“Best B&B I ever stayed in.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

What do you want in a B&B? A clean, quiet bedroom and modern bath but with some charm too? This had it all including a friendly host. You want a lot of extras? Let me count the ways the Gallery B&B came though... Everyone wants a clean modern bath - Gallery's extra was a shower with hand hold spray and instant on hot water. Want a TV - Gallery had TV with DVD player and a large selection of DVD disks. How new were the DVD's? I viewed "The King's Speech." The closet had not a" few" hangers but I counted 16 hangers. The sturdy medal framed beds with duvet in Room 3 were comfortable with extra blankets. In the room was not only coffee and tea but also tea, hot chocolate with chocolates on the pillow and biscuits. Breakfast was per-ordered from a menu that would put room service menus to shame. Expect jelly packets? No, locally produced honey, jams and preserves... Several varieties of breads and local meat sausage, e.g., wild boar to pork with apples to even a vegetarian sausage. You like coffee in the morning? How about fresh brewed? You want a newspaper for breakfast? How about a selection of four different newspapers... The weather looks a little rainy out? How about an umbrella by the door... You want to peruse local information before going out? A large selection of information and guide books of the local area is on a rack near the door... You want to walk to a nearby good restaurant? The Gallery is two minutes from the market square and several restaurants. I recommend the Charles Bistro in Bakers Alley just down the street... You want to be close to the World of James Herriot? How about across the street - that close enough? Gallery B&B has wireless internet but if you did not bring a computer, the local library has computer access just across the opposite side of the market square... You want to be close to public transportation? The local bus service and National Coach stop are at the clock in the market square... We read in the Gallery instructions and information booklet in the room and saw an entry for "Laundry - ask me." So we asked Kathryn and she offered to do our small load of laundry (we arrived from Ireland after an 11 day tour). We came back from touring and found our laundry drying on a drying rack inside our room. How nice was that? As stated in another review, we were staying at the Gallery when another guest ended up at the train station late at night and Kathryn kindly picked her up. This visit was exceptional, even the fact that Kathryn has no cat and thus allowed us to stay there since my wife has allergies to cats. When you check out a web site for a B&B and visit the Gallery B&B on line and read the description and see the photos, you ask yourself, “Is it really that good?” The answer is: Absolutely!

Room Tip: Room # 3 had twin beds.

“Cosy, country comfort, next to Heriot Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

Kathryn is a delightful and friendly hostess. We got the sense that nothing would be too much trouble. She served delicious breakfasts, with the days newspapers laid out for us. Our room was cosy and very pleasant, and very well decorated, with plenty of tea, coffee etc. We would stay there again in a shot. The parking took a bit of juggling but we got used to that. Thirsk is a very central and convenient location for exploring the Yorkshire countryside.

“Awesome!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

It was raining cats and dogs on the night I reach by train and I was not sure how to reach Gallery. Kathryn was so kind to offer to picked my up to my relief as it was dark, wet and I was panicking as I did not have my map and therefore quite lost. When I was my room, I could not stop smiling. It was clean, comfy, tidbits to eat and the best part, there is a dvd to watch James Herriot series. Breakfast was excellent with many choices and I love the jams. The best part is that it is opposite James Herriot Museum. I only wished I had more time as the town had many more places to explore especially the walks...

Although I can't always offer to collect from the station, as I run The Gallery on my own, in this situation I was more than happy to help and glad it was so much appreciated. So pleased you enjoyed your stay at The Gallery and Thirsk!
