“Friendly & helpful B&B”

We stayed here at the end of biking the Reviers Route. The owners were very helpful and friendly, a warm welcome after a wet and windy ride! They allowed us to carry out bikes through the B&B out to the back garden, where they then moved them for us into a lockable shed for the night. The rooms were very comfy, with great showers with enough hot water to last for hours if we wanted! They phoned for a taxi for us, so we could go into town to have a celebratory curry - the details of which were in our rooms, but not just information about local restaurants, it was information about places they had eaten at and would go back to.
The breakfast was great - a selection of cereals, homemade bread for toast with homemade marmalade, homemade fruit salad, full english.
There was a lounge for guests to use, complete with a bar although I don't know what the prices were like as we didn't use it.
The place had a very welcoming feel, with lots of personal photos and pictures around - so much more personal than a larger hotel.
We would definitely stay there again if we're ever in Whitehaven again.

We stopped here while cycling the Hadrian's wall cycle route. This is one of he best B&B's around. Very welcoming and the food is of the highest quality. We will be back for the C2C next time.

“Cyclists should avoid this place, and Southerners + Northeners!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2011 via mobile

Well what can I say other than if you are a cyclist about to embark on the coast to coast ride for charity in one day then avoid this place like the plague. I would also avoid if you happen to be northener or southerner as they arr disliked too. I have never been spoken to so rudely in all my life.

unfortunately I arrived later than planned due to numerous accidents
along the M5 and M6 which I did not
think would be too much of an issue but the way the proprieter launched into an attack on me,making sweeping generalisations, you would have thoughtI had murdered someone not arrived late. Had I not been cycling over 130 miles the following morning I would have slept in my car instead. I was also told not to dare use the other single bed in the room and not to mess it up-the place is a joke. Rest assured the local tourist board will hear from me about this.

They advertise secure cycle storage but again, it is a major inconvenience to them so don't bother!!

I wish I could think of a positive, but the only positive I had was when checking out :-(

We are completely confident that all of our other previous guests, including those that have returned frequently and stayed with us for up to twenty months, will read this with incredulity. Amongst those returners is this reviewer’s own cycling colleague who stated in an email “Thanks once again for being so accommodating”.
The thousands of cyclists that have seen their bikes carried up to secure, indoor accommodation will also be incredulous (we would refer to other TripAdvisor reviews). On this occasion the guests wished to depart at dawn. They requested, beforehand, that we would lock the bikes in an enclosed yard with a bolted gate. The combination lock number was provided to allow the early departure.
We fail to understand why a guest that has ordered single occupancy at a single room rate would wish to occupy both beds in a twin room upgrade.
We will request readers of other reviews, here, to ponder on the motives of this review.

“A little gem.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2011

Stayed here for one night taking up 3 rooms.

First of all the location- only 10 minutes walk from the town centre, 5 minutes from Tesco. The owners were friendly, welcoming yet unintrusive. The rooms are clean with powerful hot showers. I loved the honesty bar, this is a real northern touch. The lounge felt like our own front room and looked out onot a little tidy garden. To the rear is another garden but this was left undiscovered by us.

Finally the breakfast. WELL! Plenty of fresh fruit, yoghurt and cereals with fruit juice. The cooked options included smoked haddock, but the Full English was exceptional. The bread (toasted or fried, or both!) was home made with ever such a slight sweet tinge, the bacon and sausage were of the highest quality and the eggs done just right. Giant pots of tea were provided for the six of us and we polished off 2, apparently a Glenfield first.

I wouldn't hesistate to recommend this spot for family or couples and without we will stay again next time we visit Whitehaven. Thank You.
