“A relaxing retreat”

We stayed at Brockwood Hall in one of the lodge (Borrowdale) for a week January 2012. It was very spacious and pleasant. We had spectacular views of the hills and through the valley. The lodge was very modern and had everything that we needed. There was four of us, two couples and we didn't feel cramped at all. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. I was dreading going to Brockwood Hall after reading all of the bad reviews before we went. Yes the lodges are in need of some minor updating, but they are more than adequate for a very pleasant stay. I would suggest that any body thinking of going to Brockwood should go and give it a try and not be put off by the bad reviews.

“Okay - but only if you go without any expectations ...”

We booked "brothers-water" and the lodge was clean however very basic, but hey - that was fine by us as we were out in the country. Stunning views from the balcony which made us feel we were right in the middle of a hugh forest. Some windows would not open and even the maintenance guys could not fix this - the hot-water kept running out and we figured that we have to wait a while before the next can go - We did not try food here as we were normally out and also found really good italian restaurant in Millon call DaVinci. Most Staff were indifferent but polite however there is always one who fails that crucial friendly "eye-contact" and helpful "smile". I would avoid the swimming pool. While I was with the family, I was also hoping I could catch up with some work. When phoned they confirmed that they had high speed WiFi internet connection available - however in reality their Wifi could not reach our cabin. In fact so poor was their WiFi connection that even with a new Mac Pro we could only get a decent connection at 2 specific tiny places in the Bar area -

“BRILLIANT. IGNORE BAD REVIEWS”

Well where do I begin!???
Me & my family stayed there a few weeks ago, and we had an amazing time!
I will start with our lodge. Our lodge was very nice, but not perfect, could use a "little" TLC, but all in all it was very comfy. The pool could also do with an update, but still its was nice & relaxing - sauna is brilliant.
Maintanance was brilliant, if we needed anything doing eg. Lights, toilets, they would be straigh on the job.
Sourounding area is beautiful, you look out to hills either side wth the sea slap bang in middle and theres a nice little town, Millom which is beautiful. There are many activitied to do around the area, wich is brilliant with our 2 children. Dalton zoo is a must!
While we were on site, we could sit in the bar and let our children play outside on the grass or park as we know they are VERY SAFE. Me & my husband sat in the bar and they met many friends and all played football on the field. Was lovely.
Bar/Food/Staff -
Bar is small but cosy prices are good and its very relaxed.
Food is Brilliant compliments to the chefs - Honey Glazed Salmon is to die for.
And the staff, I don't think I have ever met such wonderfull, attentive, funny staff.
Reception are so helpful and friendly and make you feel very welcome.
Bar and Waitress staff are Excellent, They make effort to have a full conversation with you, make sure you have everything you need. They are so relaxed and defantly make your holiday worth while, they were also great with the kids & one day when it was quite one of the staff sat down with my little girl and drew pictures with her. BRILLIANT!
So all in all, Brockwood Hall is amazing and defantly going to make this a yearly holiday.

“brockwood Hall ..a enigma..!!”

We stayed in the Bassenwaite Lodge for a week, not knowing what to expect after reading such bad reviews. We had an open mind and hoped for the best. The lodge we stayed in was very nice on initial inspection and had a lovely kitchen and lounge area. The bathrooms were also very nice. The bedrooms were very basic and the linen had seen better days. The outside of the lodge looked rather unkempt with cobwebs all over the balcony area, and whenever a shower or bath was had, the discarded water simply flushed out along the outside of the lodge-not very hygienic!!!! The lodges were also very quite close together, not quite the impression we were given when booking. The swimming pool was very dirty and i personally could not bring myself to swim in the murky water. The bar area was small but nice, although the staff were not very attentive, and you often had to track one down to get a drink. Some of the staff were lovely and friendly, others however were grumpy and quite rude at times. We ordered a takeaway and they didnt get the order correct, when i told them the young girl was trying to tell me i was wrong and was very abrupt, no apology offered. My three children enjoyed the park and open areas and told me to write that it was great for kids. I feel this place has great potential if someone cared for it, and wanted the best for it. A lovely place that needs some TLC.

Room Tip: ask for the renovated lodges

“A really enjoyable stay - would go back.”

I must admit to feeling really apprehensive about going to Brockwood Hall after reading some of the reviews on TripAdvisor. However, perhaps because of them, I was really pleasantly surprised. My friend and I took our four grandchildren for our annual week away with the children. The surroundings are beautiful and the lodge we stayed in (a 3 Bedroomed) was clean, comfortable and well equipped. With four children, having a bathroom and en suite was really useful. I could find a few minor faults with the lodge if I wanted to "nitpick" but there was nothing to spoil our holiday so what's the point? We took the children out every day (spent 3 days on the beach) but we went to the pool each day on our return and the kids loved that. I agree that the changing area could do with an update but that certainly didn't stop the kids enjoying themselves. As they were in the process of laying a new floor at the pool entrance, perhaps they have plans to carry out further updates? If you like a noisy clubhouse, slot machines etc where the kids can run wild then Brockwood Hall is not for you, I have stayed at other holiday parks in the past and this is definitely more sedate - much more my "cup of tea". We had a takeaway from the Hall one evening and a meal in the Hall on another and they were fine. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back and have already recommended it to someone.
