“brockwood Hall ..a enigma..!!”

We stayed in the Bassenwaite Lodge for a week, not knowing what to expect after reading such bad reviews. We had an open mind and hoped for the best. The lodge we stayed in was very nice on initial inspection and had a lovely kitchen and lounge area. The bathrooms were also very nice. The bedrooms were very basic and the linen had seen better days. The outside of the lodge looked rather unkempt with cobwebs all over the balcony area, and whenever a shower or bath was had, the discarded water simply flushed out along the outside of the lodge-not very hygienic!!!! The lodges were also very quite close together, not quite the impression we were given when booking. The swimming pool was very dirty and i personally could not bring myself to swim in the murky water. The bar area was small but nice, although the staff were not very attentive, and you often had to track one down to get a drink. Some of the staff were lovely and friendly, others however were grumpy and quite rude at times. We ordered a takeaway and they didnt get the order correct, when i told them the young girl was trying to tell me i was wrong and was very abrupt, no apology offered. My three children enjoyed the park and open areas and told me to write that it was great for kids. I feel this place has great potential if someone cared for it, and wanted the best for it. A lovely place that needs some TLC.

Room Tip: ask for the renovated lodges

“A really enjoyable stay - would go back.”

I must admit to feeling really apprehensive about going to Brockwood Hall after reading some of the reviews on TripAdvisor. However, perhaps because of them, I was really pleasantly surprised. My friend and I took our four grandchildren for our annual week away with the children. The surroundings are beautiful and the lodge we stayed in (a 3 Bedroomed) was clean, comfortable and well equipped. With four children, having a bathroom and en suite was really useful. I could find a few minor faults with the lodge if I wanted to "nitpick" but there was nothing to spoil our holiday so what's the point? We took the children out every day (spent 3 days on the beach) but we went to the pool each day on our return and the kids loved that. I agree that the changing area could do with an update but that certainly didn't stop the kids enjoying themselves. As they were in the process of laying a new floor at the pool entrance, perhaps they have plans to carry out further updates? If you like a noisy clubhouse, slot machines etc where the kids can run wild then Brockwood Hall is not for you, I have stayed at other holiday parks in the past and this is definitely more sedate - much more my "cup of tea". We had a takeaway from the Hall one evening and a meal in the Hall on another and they were fine. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back and have already recommended it to someone.

“Could do a lot better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

The accommodation was OK but the balconny was "Scruffy" and needed some attention. We took a small dog and the areas where dogs could be walked were extremely restricted and even the walks that were shown in the wecome pack were fenced off (electric fences). As we had a 1 year old child we had requested a cot to be in the property but we had to request this to be brought from reception after we had checked in. The cot came without linen and after a number of requests we were provided with additional single bed sheets as they couldn't provide cot linen. The childrens park that is advertised is a single climbing frame suitable for 5 year olds and older, this meant that there was no play area for the 2 children in the family. On the plus side, we did eat in the bar area near reception and the food was surprisingly good. We have previously stayed at a number of Hoseasons properties and this has been the worse and we shall not consider returning.

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

After reading some negative reviews on here, we were a bit dubious about our week at Brockwood hall, but we holiday at Haven every year and are used to being penalised for having a dog and receiving a grotty caravan, we were pleasantly surprised.
This site is a hidden gem set in beautiful woodlands with magnificent views and of course the cheeky peacocks.
We were given the Eden cabin, which was lovely, nipping clean with welcoming tea and coffee and a loo roll, who would have thought...
The hall has a fantastic restaurant and bar with food to die for, 10/10, I would have liked to see some evening entertainment, but the kids had a fab time anyway, they thoroughly enjoyed the pool and pool table.
The staff were a different breed all together from what we were used to, really lovely, friendly and efficient.
We would highly recommend this place and look forward to returning soon.

“More TLC Needed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

Brockwood Hall stayed in Leven first impression was outside area very tired and rough. When sitting on the verandah area you had to be careful where you put your chair as legs kept going down spaces between wooden slats. Area became very slippy when wet. Rooms very small and dark. Pool area tired especially changing areas. Woodland area has been sadly neglected and trails that had previously existed are now overgrown. Lovely views and formal garden areas could be a spectacular place with a little more TLC.
