“Lovely hotel, marvellous staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Have stayed at the Hallmark several times. Hotel has been refurbed and they are constantly upgrading rooms and adding new touches all the time. On a Friday evening they put a Tapas table in the main bar and the small plates were delicious, just what you needed at the end of a week! The restaurant is amazing for a small country hotel, great choice and large portions. We had a seafood starter and it came in its own little frying pan with huge langoustine, squid and mussels in a light broth of garlic butter accompanied with delicious breads. Service great and the staff more than helpful. This hotel cater for many weddings and have a beautiful function room.

Room Tip: They also have suite type rooms which are really nice.

“Excellent park and ride”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Had a relaxing evening before flying. Didn't eat there. Bar staff friendly, average English hotel drinks prices.
Good value - at £80 for hotel and 4 nights parking.
Room was fine, clean and comfy.
Lots of comments regarding hot and cold rooms - my colleagues and I had cold ones - fine for me, not good for them. But it was minus 2 that night.
After chatting to taxi driver it seems that the hotel book "fly and park" guests into the rooms close to reception on ground floor and these are the cold rooms. Rooms in the main building are warmer!
Staff charming and helpful all went very smoothly. Both taxi drivers also helpful and chatty.
We ordered a taxi for 4 with luggage and a large taxi arrived 10 minutes before the time we booked.
On return, very efficient. Large taxi arrived within 10 minutes of calling. Nice touch was we got a text telling us the reg number of the vehicle to look out for. I would definitely recommend this hotel for travellers.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your kind comments on your recent stay, it was great to hear you found it an all round good package. Apologies you found the temperature in your room on the cold side, we do have the heating on constant at this time and additional heaters are available on request from reception as outlined in the guest directory. You were misinformed regarding allocation of rooms, guests are placed all over the building in line with the type of rooms booked not on packages booked.
Thank you again for your comments and I do hope we will be welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

Kind Regards

Linda

“Excellent value: unusual hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We stayed for an inclusive 'spa weekend' package, and were impressed. The building has had a lot of care lavished on its interiors, so the bedrooms are comfortable and stylish, and the lounge, bar and restaurant comfortable, in a very interior-designed way. That staff were outstandingly helpful and welcoming: at reception and in the spa and restaurant.

Don't be put off by the rather austere and boxy exterior: Hallmark have spent a lot of money, but have clearly decided to refurbish the decor when another group might have attempted to rebuild a very odd building. Labyrinthine corridors and an odd site plan are minor quirks. Rather more curious is the spa, which seems to incorporate a house and several acres of flat roofing, together with a rather sweet Poirot style Art-Deco entrance area. The pool is clean and the gym well-equipped.

The spa break is excellent value: given excellent restaurant food, a massage and tapas, it would be hard to do better. And John Lewis is five minutes up the road!

“Excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Me and my Mum stayed at this hotel as part of a spa package. It was a very good deal and well worth the money.
Room: Lovely modern room but would agree with a couple of the other reviews about the room being quite cold.
Restaurant: Food was lovely and unusual that when on a dinner inclusive rate you still had the full pick of the menu (with a couple of supplements). Staff in the restaurant were more than friendly and had very good knowledge of the menu. Breakfast was a very sufficient buffet.
Spa: Very disappointing. The whole building needs a complete refurb. It's a shame as the rest of the hotel is absolutely lovely. Changing rooms were quite dirty and smelly. The roof above the swimming pool is actually falling down in some areas (these were sectioned off).
Staff: Some of the best staff I've seen in a U.K hotel for a while. They were all really friendly and very helpful. A refreshing change!!

Dear guest

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us . It was great to here you found your spa break excellent value for money and that you enjoyed the full use of menu selection which we offer to all guests with us. I do apologise you felt disappointed with the leisure club, the pool roof is currently being fixed due to a leak hence the reason it was segregated off slightly for guest safety. This issue has now been rectified.

Thank you again for your comments

“looked good from outside ??”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

me and my husband stayed, on the stay and fly package, the hotel looked great and the taxi service excellant, but thats were the posative ends? the room was so cold at night. the spa area old and dirty, and having been told there were hot dishes available from the bar menu we found only one ,which was over priced to say the least, for the quality of the dish, not a good start to a holiday.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments. It was very disappointing to read you did not enjoy your stay with us and I am sorry this was the case. Your comments regarding bar menu hot dishes are inaccurate as there are a full selection off hot dishes available during bar opening times, I can only assume you were ordering out of hours when the menu is reduced to night service as with all hotels. Our pricing is in line with the area and we do feel it is fairly priced and in line with local pricing.
It is a shame if you were cold you did not contact reception as outlined in the guest directory additional heaters or fans can be provided for guests who are unhappy with the temperature in there room so we can rectify for guests comfort.
Thank you
Regards
