A 2 day break between Christmas & New Year - A day shopping at Cheshire Oaks, an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn followed by a day in the beautiful town of Chester.
Booked the hotel online a few months before the stay which was a very easy experience. The hotel is located 5 mins drive from Cheshire Oaks and 15 mins from the centre of Chester. Sat Nav took us directly to the hotel car park but it is well signposted off the motorway & therefore no stress. The hotel is located in the centre of a canal boat museum & is essentially on an island surrounded by canals with narrow boats / barges etc on the water.
Parking was ample & easy. Reception was bright & clean & the receptionist was extremely helpful & pleasant. We asked about the evening food menu at check in and were guided to the restaurant but the menu had at that time not been printed out. However, when we came down to the bar an hour later, the receptionist had printed out 2 menus for us in readiness.
Our room was at the rear of the hotel with views of the canals & boats / locks etc. The room was extremely clean with 2 double beds, TV, internet access, well fitted out bathroom, iron & ironing board and somewhat of a surprise a selection of firm & soft pillows. To some it might seem businesslike & perfunctory but in reality it proved to be ideal for us. We had drinks in the bar which were slightly more than the local pub but it was cold & wet outside and frankly after a days shopping we were more than happy to stay in the hotel confines. We ate in the hotel restaurant which had a reasonable if limited menu. The restaurant is set to the rear with a conservatory style again looking out over the canal scenery. I had monkfish as a main course & my wife ordered a med rare steak. Both were cooked to perfection and delivered to the table by attentive and personable staff. The only criticism as such would be the utilitarian furniture and the fact that staff were laying tables for breakfast to finish their shift to go home which given the time of year I had no real issue with.
The beds were extremely comfortable and afforded us a good nights sleep from which to spend the day in Chester with its beautiful mediaeval town centre.
Overall it would be difficult to find any significant faults with this hotel & I would certainly book it again.
Room Tip: Having read some other reviews it seems that we had a good room at the rear of the hotel. Some revie...
