I stayed at the Royal Hotel for an extended spell during Sep/Oct. In all fairness this hotel is everything you need should be looking for a stopgap between the bed and the pub. For groups of lads/ladies looking for a lively place then at weekends this will provide them ample. Unfortunately I was here with family (including a 4 month old baby) so it wasn't the most ideal spot for us to be in. We were on the first floor, which situated below us was a pub. The hotel itself sits on top of a lively night venue. This was obviously a problem at nights with the extreme noise and rowdy goings on outside the window, but in the hotel's defence they do state at reception that at the weekends it can be noisy so guests are forewarned.
The staff were also very friendly and were helpful when needed. The breakfasts were top notch and really felt well deserved after a night of sleeplessness. The rooms themselves are pretty basic, but guests aren't really going to stay here for the en-suite bathrooms anyway.
All in all good for the party crowd, but families should perhaps go to a quiter establishment.
