“Cheap and staff were lovely”

This hotel was good considering it cost £39. We got there about 9pm and the girl on the door was really nice. She offered us breakfast at an extra £10 so we took it. £5 each isnt too bad for breakfast. The room was ok and yes, it was a little dated but again, i really can't grumble for the price. One thing that costs nothing and should never go amiss though is cleanliness. The shower had thick mould behind the tap fitting which could easily have been reached/cleaned so why it wasn't suggests cleaning isnt up to much.
Beds were very small and not greatly comfy but i did manage to sleep ok considering.
Two windows in the room, both opened which was good. Car park good and free to park. The position of this hotel is it's selling point i think. It also does look quite nice from outside.

“Abhorrent”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

The room was tiny, hotter than the sun and decorated in the style of a 1930s gentlemans club. The mattress was rock hard and the 'dressing table' housed a bar-stool underneath. Indeed, with the threadbare, lurid carpet, it was akin to being in the backroom at a pub in the least salubrious place imaginable.

The bathroom smelled of sewage, the fixtures and fittings had not been changed for a few decades (at least), and it was not a place in which I could see even a feral animal being comfortable performing his ablutions.

If you (dare) complain, the staff lose their 'welcoming smiles' and become antagonistic and defensive (their money clearly means a lot to them, however, I am unsure what it is spent on). My partner and I were shouted (high-pitched shriek) at and were told to consult the refund policy. When asked to produce this, we were advised there was no copy but one could be found on there website. There was none there either.

I would recommend you look at the other far more comfortable, professional and modern establishments near by.

“Cheap but not especially cheerful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2011

On the plus side, the hotel is undoubtedly cheap, it does have a fair sized car park, the breakfast was okay and the staff were pleasant enough.

However, the website description ("All of our bedrooms have been recently refurbished...") is misleading. It should say "... have been recently treated to a lick of paint...". The furniture, carpets, sheets, towels, bathroom suite etc. had all seen better days.

The website should also make clear that the double rooms can only accommodate a double bed by pushing it against the far wall. A 10' square box is very cramped for two adults.

The immediate environs can best be described as 'lively'. The pub two doors down was pumping out music until well into the early hours of Sunday morning, and the partying frequently seemed to spill out onto the pavement. A cacophony of naff music, drunken karaoke, lovers' tiffs and plenty of four-letter words filled the night air.

However, sleep was almost impossible in any case, because the hotel had a function downstairs. The music thumping up through the floor rattled my brain and fillings in fairly short order. My grandparents - who are in their early 80s - scarcely managed any sleep at all.

The hotel should have made all this clear at the time of booking. They didn't.

So in summary, a cheap hotel, in a pretty unpleasant area. And in all honesty, even at £40 per night, I expect more.

Given the poor quality of rooms on offer, this hotel isn't cheap enough.

“Bargain hotel in great location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2011

My wife and I use this hotel every time we visit our daughter who is at uni in Crewe. For under £50 for the two of us, which includes a very hearty breakfast I cannot fault this hotel. Whilst the rooms may be a little small they are clean and tidy with a comfy bed.
