Now just reopened and re-branded as Holiday Inn Express, the hotel has obviously been extensively and nicely refurbished. The friendly hotel staff all seem to be new and are still getting used to the place, but it is typical Holiday Inn Express standard, so you know what to expect (if you've stayed at HIE before!). Very few other guests around, so it's difficult to judge how they'll cope with an influx, but no obvious problems so far and some great rates available. Room was very comfortable, free wifi and all the freeview channels on the large screen TV. Typical HIE complimentary breakfast with hot scrambled eggs, baked beans and sausages. Only thing wrong was no label showing whether the milk was semi-skimmed or not! Next to a McDonalds and Tesco Express for emergency food supplies. Five minutes walk from Crewe station, very convenient as sadly there's nothing much to recommend Crewe town centre (about twenty minutes walk and not worth it). I wish them every success, although why anyone would want to visit Crewe is a bit of a mystery to me! But if it's a choice of Travelodge or Holiday Inn Express, I would recommend HIE every time. Plenty of pillows and towels already in the room without you having to go back to reception to get them..... Decent shower gel and soap dispensers installed in the bathroom, unlike Travelodge where all you get is one measly bar of soap. And a decent sized wash basin! Travelodge's 'Mr Sleep' should come here and see how it should be done.
