Having stayed there 18months ago and reviewed I thought it was worth updating my thoughts, especially as I gave it a poor rating.
Over the past couple of months I have spent more around 20 nights in this hotel. The reasons why this and not somewhere else are
- the food, both breakfast and evening meals.
- the gym
- rooms
Yes, the rooms could do with a little bit of additional TLC but several of them have been refurbished. The negative of this is they have altered the lighting so you have to switch on every light for it to be bright enough. As a note, stripy carpeted rooms (100's & 200's have good hair dryers while the showers are OK. The rooms in the extension 300s, 400s and 500s have better showers but not as good hair dryers.
The food is generally good. Breakfast there is a wide choice, including fresh fruit salad, pastries, cooked breakfast and poached eggs cooked to order. Evening meals you can choose the bar which has an extensive menu or the verve which tends to be meat and sides. The one thing worth watching in the Verve is the amount of garlic in pasta dishes, although nice it can be a danger to others the next day. I liked the fact that I managed to not put weight while staying here.
The gym is open long hours and has various classes you can attend (if not full). I've been to the gym on several occasions and never had an issue using machines.
An additional benefit if you have no car is that within walking distance is Cheadle (turn right out of hotel) with a few shops and places to eat.
Slight negatives are the planes but you'll have that in any hotel around this area due to the airport being so close. Also the rooms over the bar can be noisy.
