In 7 years of taking off the month of January to travel, we have never returned to the same place/accommodation, until this January! We love Casa Carolina and stayed this time for 2.5 weeks and enjoyed every day of our stay. We love the location, the rooms, including loads of hot water and great showers, the kitchen, the shopping trucks, the lack of noise, the amount of wildlife, the snorkelling, the kayaking, meeting all the other fantastic guests and of course Bob and Carolina and Tootsie.

11 years ago I visited Xcalak for vacation and left with wonderful memories of a warm sea, white sand, fantastic diving and snorkeling, and a quiet village. I was more than pleased to find that this little bit of paradise on the Caribbean has not changed at all. Something which I am sure cannot be said of the vast majority of beautiful places in the world today. And it gave me confidence that in another 11 years Xcalak will still be a refuge for those who want to enjoy the ocean and beach without the crowds, mega-resorts, pollution, and cities.

Casa Carolina is a delightful place to stay, with a total of only 4 rooms you have plenty of quiet and privacy. Bob and Caroline are gracious hosts ready to answer and assist any of your questions. The place is spotless.

As for value: I'm not sure there is anywhere else you can stay in Quintana Roo, Mexico for $100/night which includes: a private beach, immediate snorkeling and diving access, free use of kayaks and bicycles, breakfast, large clean room with hammock, hot water, and your own kitchen, all with only 6 other guests besides yourself.

Only 1 thing really has changed in Xcalak in 11 years, and that is the addition of the restaurant the Leaky Palapa. Now you can go to Xcalak to get away from it all and still go out for an incredible meal at a beautiful restaurant.

5 stars happily and easily. If you are traveling through the Yucatan staying here for as much time as you can afford is a must.

I went to Xcalak without a hotel reservation. I had read about the hotels in Xcalak on this site and some other places, so I had an idea about the places to look at. Fortunately I got there early enough in the day that I was able to check out a few places. The view from the rooms at Casa Carolina absolutely blew me away. I’m not even quite sure what made such a difference between Casa Carolina and the other places, which are also on the Caribbean, and are all within a few miles of each other (although driving on the Xcalak beach road, it feels like more than a few miles between the hotels that are closer to town and the ones that are farther away). Maybe it was the broad expanse of their well-cared for beach, or the perfect distance between my balcony and the shore line, with the palm trees between the hotel and the sea, or the distance from the shore to the reef here. All I know is, nothing else compared to it. The comfortable, immaculately clean room, the wonderful people, the great breakfast, and the convenient location were all just icing on the cake.

My 2 adult children and I shared a room here last week and loved it! Rooms are clean with everything you need and more....you'll like you're in paradise when you awake to the spectacular view of the Caribbean from your room. Breakfasts are fresh and delicious. Bob and Caroline are extremely gracious; they will make arrangements for all your activities if you desire: fishing, snorkeling, SCUBA, tours, etc. Or, you can just relax on the beach. There is free WiFi, should you need to stay connected to the world you are escaping here. My only problem was that we couldn't stay longer!
