Akumal is a very beautiful place, with a crystal clear lagoon, great snorkelling (you can't miss the turtles, I saw them every time I went into the lagoon), a small and quite village with good restaurant.

Las Casitas is clearly located on the most beautiful part of the bay, with an access to a private beach which beats every other beach nearby. The hotel is made of around 18 one story houses close to one another. Our “bungalow” had two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large leaving room with a kitchen spot. I believe every house has see view. Las Casitas fits very well in the landscape and was clearly build in harmony with this magical bay (unfortunately it’s less the case for other hotels in Akumal...). Do not expect luxury however, this place looks more like home than to a 5 star hotel.

The house was clean, the staff charming and very pleasing. We really had a good time in Las Casitas.

If you want to spend 4 of 5 days in south Yucatan, Las Casitas is the right spot : 30mn from playa del Carmen, 30 mn from Tulum, near some beautiful Cenotes and Mayan vestiges.

This place was totally not what we expected from the reviews....the condo we got was extremely outdated and just not inviting at all...everything was very, very old. My husband and I travel all the time and after being there about 3 hours, we both decided to leave even after paying and not getting a refun. Akumal is a cool little town, but not for couple's who are on vacation without their kids.

The last time we visited Akumal, we stayed at Akumal Beach Resort. Our kids were younger and it was nice having the activities and closed community of an all-inclusive. However, we tired of the food and the crowds. This time we wanted to be on our own and closer to town. We booked one of the larger casitas last March and were pleasantly surprised at how charming, spacious and clean it was. Even better, it is just steps away from the beach. You can easily go back and forth to the house for a towel, drink, camera, more suntan lotion, etc. The kitchen, dining room and living room occupy one large rectangle on the first floor that opens onto a boganvilla-clad arbor and patio. Upstairs, the two bedrooms are separated by a long hall, each with their own bathroom. Amazing views from the master bedroom!! Great place for cocktails. Lots of space for everyone to relax and have their own privacy both indoors and out. Everything is immaculate, with detailed daily cleaning service included. It is also centrally located so you don't need a rental car. As local grocery shopping is limited, we arranged for van service from the airport with a stop at Walmart in Playa for snacks and drinks on the way down. Our only complaints: some of the neighbors can be noisy (the guy next door literally talked outside on his cellphone all day; neighbors on the other side had loud small children); there is only one sea kayak, which is supposed to be reserved by the hour (kind of a pain); there is no one policing the private beach and several non-guests showed up towards the end of the day. Also, they do not provide snorkel equipment. It costs $60 USD per person to rent it at the Dive Center near Lol-Ha, which is outrageous, considering it only cost us $10 per week in Hawaii last year. But that's not the fault of Las Casitas!! We are already planning to book another week next year!

We love Las Casitas and have been returning for 10 years. It is always clean, the staff are helpful and friendly. We often make meals in the furnished kitchen and eat out on the patio covered with beautiful flowers and a beach view. The beach is the best! Within walking distance are great restaurants, grocery stores and dive shops. Las Casitas is perfect for every age, including young children.
