“Great first all inclusive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

My wife and i stayed Jan 28-Feb 4 2012, we stayed in the Royal golden building 31a adjacent to to the activity pool on the coba lobby side of the resort.

On arrival from Cancun airport 1hr and 45 min later we were shuttled from the main lobby to a smaller Royal Golden lobby and check in.It was very quick but our bags did take 45 to make it to our room.

The rooms were very spacious, and yes we did notice a smell but wasn't bothersome to us.The bathrooms were really nice with a nice jetted tub,and the A/C worked very good we had to open the door to warm up in the morning. The negatives...these villas are like a tin can u can here every chair move, toilet flush, sliding door shutting but the worst by far is the damn doors slamming shut, from 6am to 2 am crash..crash everytime someone came in and out of there room that for us was the only reason we didn't give this resort 5/5.Room cleaners did an excellent job spotless everday and left towel art on our bed a couple times and extra snacks when we asked although we did tip 40 pesos a day.

The resort is beautiful Landscaped and is maintained like a championship golf course, and yes very big when u take into count the use of all 3 resorts witch we saw as a positive. There are large shuttles that can take u anywhere on the property and we found them to be quick and easy to figure out.

The pools were very big and at the activity pool had lots goin on music games ect, the quiet pool was just that more low key a bit older crowd with no activities

Pool/Beach bars were pretty quiet didn't have to wait more than 2min for a drink and the drinks were not weak although they didn't use brand name liquor unless u asked but who can taste the quality of booze in a bahama mama come on its pure sweetness. We think the best drinks were poured in the coba lobby

The Beach was very nice white sand blue water but the coba beach is small and crowded we liked the tulum beach the best less rocky too. my advice for getting beach chairs or pool chairs is get there before 9 or put your towel on a chair when u wake up!!! we didn't do that but we seemed to find a couple if we went earlier than later.

The food at the buffet was good and a lot of it the buffet is massive a ton to choose from.I think the buffet was all about timing if u went for breakfast at 1030 ya it was a bit cold but at 730 it was piping hot, so if we ate late we always found something hot but i can see why people would complain when the food was cold. Service was good at the buffet we ate in the same sections with the same servers every day (thanks Juan)A la cartes were booked 2 weeks before we left my wife emailed felix and he got us all our times no problem so thanks to him.We ate at Tequila in Tulum, Mikado at Coba, Le gourmet at Coba, and Arlequin at Akumal. We liked them all good times and food at all,but we liked Le gourmet and Arlequin the best, again great service.

All in all we had a great time, excellent service and we would be back for sure, not sure still if the royal golden is worth it and we were thinking that the akumal in its proximity to the beach might be worth a look but definitely happy with our decision to stay there

“Fantastic Mexican Resort and Chain!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I'll preface by saying that I've stayed at this particular resort several times. The abridged review is that it's nothing short of fantastic. I would not have returned had it not been such an amazing experience. I'm the epitome of a "nit picker". Nothing to "nit pick" about here. If you're contemplating going here, take a large sample of the reviews and look at all of the positive comments. there are only a few poor comments. Typically, (poor reviews)that type of traveler can't be satisfied as they compare everything to first world standards. Again, great resort and AWESOME chain. I've visited both their Punta Cana and Puerta Plata chains in Dominican Republic as well......FANTASTIC!

“Will definitely be back and thanks Westjet”

Returned about a week ago from the Gran Bahia Principe Coba resort and we will definitely be back. Flew to Cancun with Westjet and had a bit of a luggage screw up at the airport which we did not realize until we got to the hotel. BestDay representative at the Coba was extremely helpful in getting my luggage from the Cancun airport to the Coba by the next day. We had worried we may have to take a taxi to Cancun and return to claim the luggage. Big thanks to both Westjet and Best Day for all the help. The resort exceeded our expectations. All the staff were helpful and attentive to many details. Felix granted our email requests for a la cartes and room choices. We were in Villa 27 on the top floor and while the view was mostly trees the location could not have been any better. Room had a musty smell but we expected that because of the tropical location. Was disappointed to not have any towel art, but that gives us something additional to look forward to next year. Checkin was painless and the cold beverages were refreshing. The resort is big but once you wander around a while you quickly get everything figured out. We want to give a huge thanks to Jesus Morales Gama in the Kukulcan buffet restaurant. He took care of us morning, noon and night. It's a pleasure to see staff remember you from day to day and have everything ready when you sit down to eat. Because of attentive staff like him, and many others at the resort, we will return to the resort. The a la cartes we booked were very good. We found that if you do an excursion or two there is just not enough time in a weeks booking to enjoy everything at the resort. For our visit next year we will do 10 days so we can enjoy more of the resort. Didn't get a chance to explore the Hacienda as much as we would have liked. Overall, a very enjoyable holiday, we will return next year.

“Christmas 2011 in Mexico”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We decided to take another family Christmas Vacation in the sunshine. The winner this year: Akumal, Mexico. We chose the Gran Bahia Principe Coba over a few others because of the price and the fact that it came highly recommended by our travel agent.
Overall we had a very nice time. The complex is HUGE. Comprised of 3 hotels on three different but connected sites, it covers a lot of ground.
Shuttles abound and getting around is quite easy once you figure out how it works.
The pools were clean and there are quite a few. The only negative aspect .... Nowhere near enough chairs. It became a constant battle to secure a spot around the pool as people reserved them quite early (and most went unused throughout the day). Hotel regulations ask that you not reserve chairs. People disregard the rule and management doesn't enforce it so why bother having one. They could have easily doublee the amount of chairs and still had tons of room around the pools. However, that did not dampen our spirits and we decided to play the game. We reserved our chairs early ... But we actually used them.
The beach was very very nice. The water was warm, beach was clean and there were activities going on all morning, all week.
The rooms were spacious and clean and everything we needed was there.
The restaurants .... Very good. We went to a few a la carte and the buffet and found the food to be exellent.
Overall ... A great vacation.

“Awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Stayed here Feb/09.....Incredible place....absolutely huge...if you don't like to walk...jump on the golf cart bus....there's one every five minutes to take you anywhere in this incredible resort. Went with another couple and every second of this vacation was enjoyed by all. Couple dollars on the local transport will get you to Playa Del Carmen...or Tulum....an hour to Cancun....or go over to Cozumel and rent scooters for the day. Just an absolutely amazing place for a vacation. Quiet, clean and friendly....did I say awesome already? And that's not even counting the ruins....

Room Tip: Not a bad room in the place.
