“enjoyed the latin patries”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2009

I spent nearly 6 months in this hotel, almost half of 2008. It was great to be there. Initially i was bored since most of mexican peoples dont speak english. Later with the hotel staffs it was great. Most of the staffs speak english & are friendly. Weekend parties in this hotel is great. Construction of hotel gives you feeling like a resort in the middle of the town. Walkable distance from downtown & Mexico-US border.

It was great in all

“Given the choice, I'd go somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2008

We were told to stay at this hotel by the company that we were visiting.

A 20 minute ride from the Brownsville Airport got us to this relatively rundown hotel in a tired area of Matamoros. We were instructed not to walk the streets at night, but frankly, I wouldn't walk them during the day either, there didn't look like there was anything to see or do.

The staff was fine but the hotel itself is rather grim. I ended up with a suite, which had a large bedroom and a larger living room/kitchen area. This was way too much space and really only needed a good bed for the night. It would be a real value for a family though.

The room was fine, AC worked, but eh view was a ground level view of an adjacent parking lot. I think it would be better to ask for a room on the inside of the building which would provide a view of the well-maintained courtyard.

Breakfast was included in the rate and eggs were cooked to order. Tortillas tasted homemade and I recommend them.

On the bright side, we didn't stay in Brownsville which looked like a time capsule of everything bad about the 1950s.

“Worst Service with the worst attitudes, they don't deserve 1 star!”

This hotel looks nice, but the woman at the front dest is the absolute worst at customer service. Her and the man working at the front door had a bad attitude and chips on their shoulders if I asked a single simple question. They made the stay there a very bad experience. All they cared is that you pay for their over priced rooms and get out. If you voice a concern or need any help they certainly will become snotty and useless as resolving your concerns or making suggestions towards any resolution. You couldn't pay me to stay there again. I give this hotel a negative -5 on a scale of 1 to 5. There are much better hotels in the area with great customer service. Nothing about this Best Western was 5 star as they claim!!!!

  • Liked — The toilet was clean although nothing else was.
  • Disliked — Bad customer service, the worst in fact.

“Avoid this hotel - it gives Best Western a bad name”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2007

We usually enjoy Best Western hotels, so we asked directions to this one to check on the availability of rooms. We arrived quite late at night looking for a room. The woman and staff we encountered at the front desk of this hotel was the rudest I've ever encountered (throughout) the world.

When we asked about seeing a room we were put off by her take it or leave it attitude. She was quite enamored with their (what looks like a) self-awarded "5 star" status since she mentioned it at least 3 times. The hotel seems quite unremarkable and the service doesn't merit a one star rating.

Furthermore, when we enquired about keeping a pet in the car we were told we would absolutely not be able to stay at the hotel and she refused help us find an alternate hotel saying there were no other hotels in town that would take us.

Needless to say, there are plenty of other hotels in town, that are much nicer. We found the Best Western Residencial Inn on Avenida Pedro Cardenas a few miles down the road, that would have been happy to have us (but was booked for a conference). They were happy to recommend and direct us to the Holiday Inn that even had the security guards look out for our pets.

A bad apple like this could have soured us for life on Best Western. The management should consider removing their brand from this particular hotel.

“Very Old”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2007

It is a very old hotel. Old sheets, old beds, old pillows. But is the only 3 star hotel in Matamoros, so you can´t choose. If you have to go Matamoros, or you sleep there or in worst hotel.
It doesn´t worth $100. It´s a 50 dollar hotel not more.
