Our room smelled horribly like sewage. When we figured out the smell was coming from the bathroom, we went up to the reception to report the probelm. They sent a maid who sprayed the bathroom and the room but it did not fix the problem. The whole room had a pungent smell. The hotel did not offer to change the room. In fact, upon our arrival, they offered to take our bags and told us we would have to wait for the room to get cleaned up. We avoided going into the bathroom and used their public facilities by the restaurant whenever possible. The beds were not comfortable at all. At the restaurant we were given dirty glasses with lipstick on. It was very disgusting. The food was okay but not great. Avoid staying at this hotel if you can. I do not recommend it.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group travelling for the Day of the Dead so our tour director was responsible for choosing this hotel but I was very impressed with it. The rooms were very nice and clean; beds were hard, which you get used to in most all of Mexico, bathroom decorated with tiles in typical mexican style. The gardens and pool area were filled with flowers and had a view of the mountains. Of course it was too cool to get in the pool, and I'm not sure when it warms up there as it is high in the mountains. There is a bar and restaurant area and we were given a welcome drink. The hotel is not in the main part of town but is on the main road going from the lake area where you take the boat to Janitizio It is not far to either one. There is excellent security in this hotel.

It is a very pleasant hotel with a lot of services as swimming pool, old booling, billards (american and french), badmington, tennis... perfect if you got children but it is also a very charming hotel for couples.

The rooms are calm and spacious with a lovely garden view and you can eat in a patio or inside (for a reasonnable price)
Once a week you got a typical dinner with typical dancers.

Fot the location, it is about 5 mn of the center by car but when you go to Patzcuaro, you go 1 day down town, and the rest of the journey on the lake or do the turn of it.

We stayed for two nights at the Best Western Posada de Don Vasco, outside of the city center in Patzcuaro. The hotel is not right on one of the main plazas, and is best if you need something to do at the hotel. It is in a sort of a compound, with free guarded parking.

The hotel is very large, and was not very full when we stayed there. There is a restaurant and bar, and the hotel is kept very clean. It is older and full of funky personality. We had a room with two double beds. The sheets were lovely. We also saw rooms with one single, two single beds or a king bed.

The best thing about the hotel for us was all of the activities available. There was a game room with two (manual) full-sized bowling lanes, pool tables, foosball tables and ping pong tables! The lighting was just horrible, but the kids loved the room. Outside was a pool, a badminton court and a tennis court.

Service was very attentive and polite. We had drinks delivered to us in the game room. The bellhop came to get our bags instantly! All of the staff worked to get us anything we needed. There are two restaurants - one facing the road, and an interior courtyard restaurant. Both are nice, but the courtyard restaurant was lovely. There were other families staying there. While the service was top-notch, the hotel was relaxed and not stuffy.

This hotel is in provincial Mexico, and is not brand-new and 100% kept up perfectly. However, if you love Mexico and all of its quirky charm, this is a good choice.
