“Great spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We recently spent 2 nights with Susan & Paul in their lovely home at Mahone Bay. Paul & Susan are gracious hosts who are more than happy to help you with travel tips, dining tips, & general information about the area, which is simply stunning.
We had a spacious room on the first floor which was really comfortable & beautifully decorated. The amenities were great & we had fresh towels & linen each day.
Breakfast was a real treat every morning. Both Paul & Susan enjoy cooking & this was clearly evident by the delicious fruit & cooked breakfasts we had while there, including a souffle which was amazing!
We can thoroughly recommend Edgewater B&B, & Mahone Bay, as a great place to stay & explore the coast.

Room Tip: We had a large room upstairs with a sitting area but there is a very comfortable lounge downstairs f...

“Couldn't have been better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

This B&B is in a great location, across the road from the harbor. We had a very comfy king bed, and a window looking out over the water. Paul wrote out a driving tour of the area, with detailed directions to places we wouldn't have otherwise known about (check out the Ovens, Blue Rocks, and the La Have Cable Ferry.) Susan's breakfasts were just too delicious, with lots of fruit and memorable treats such as cheese gem muffins and something I can't explain that she did with a croissant, almonds, and cinnamon. The other guests were friendly and interesting.

The unexpected highlight, though, was Paul's twilight trombone, playing standards that echoed out over the water, and including requests from their neighbors. We came away wishing we had more time to get to know Paul and Susan better, and thinking that their neighbors are lucky indeed.

Room Tip: We looked at all the rooms and spoke to the other guests: all the rooms are very very nice.

“Great all around”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

We didn't have reservations but it was the first place we stopped when we arrived in Mahone Bay and felt lucky to come upon this lovely place. Great hosts that connect well with people and seem very connected to their community. They are interested and interesting.

Beautiful home. Felt very comfortable in the lounge areas with casual but elegant slip-covered furniture and plenty to read - very much a beach house. Overall, decorated in a light tones and lots of white painted bead-board. Wood floors, rugs, clean and crisp cotton bed linens with nice textured cotton duvet and lots of tasteful accoutrements and local art throughout. One small detail I appreciated - for the comfort of all, our hosts preferred that people not use scents and provided very nice quality paraben free shampoo in a large bottle rather than providing small sized bottles. Personally, I think it's an environmental waste to provide all those small bottles of toiletries.

One large table for lovely breakfast - though just a touch tight with 8 people. Lots of attention to detail. Fruit, Belgian Waffles (with more fruit, whipped cream or maple syrup), Bacon, coffee etc. Also, a nice, big cook's kitchen if you are able to get a peek.

We stayed one of three(?) guest rooms on the second floor inside the house. They also have a charming cottage that is available in full or just the sleeping quarters. Good to have that option depending on your budget. The cottage is nice and private and would be perfect for a romantic trip. Could live there it is so nice and beautifully furnished and accessorized. There is a deck off of the bedroom upstairs that overlooks the harbor.

Mahone Bay is just gorgeous with lots of islands. There are plenty of dining spots in town. We followed our stay with a beautiful drive/stop/explore trip including a map that Paul provides. It really was one of the highlights of our time spent in Nova Scotia.

Room Tip: Our room in the back of the house did not have a water view.

“A Wonderful Stay In A Perfect Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We stayed here for a few nights in June as part of a trip to Nova Scotia. This B&B and location is a must see from all the history and great things to do. I do wish we booked the king bed though and that the internet worked from the second floor. Other than that....super hosts and a super stay.

We very much appreciate this very positive review. We just need to correct one thing; we do have wireless Internet access and it works on the second floor for most people. Some people who have iPads and other tablet type devices are sometimes not able to access the Internet in their rooms and do come down to the common space to gain access. However, the majority of our guests are able to access the Internet from their rooms. We will try to come up with a solution for these other devices so they have access anywhere on the property. Thank you again for taking the time to review us and for helping us to continually improve service.

“One of the finest anywhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

We stayed here just one night and loved it. Not only a comfortable, attractive room with excellent beds, but the pleasure of good company with Paul and Sue. Where else can you sit on the deck enjoying a gorgeous view of the bay at sunset while your host serenades the neighbourhood on his trombone? (And he's pretty good!)

Breakfast was excellent (for dinner, go to the Black Forest German restaurant a few kilometres down the road toward Lunenburg--first-rate!). We were sorry to leave. They gave us a map showing how to find some nearby sights worth seeing, so we had a better sense of the neighbourhood. All in all, one of the best B&Bs we've seen in Canada--and we've seen a lot.
