“Evangeline Motel - excellent place to lay your head”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

I stayed in the motel several several years ago while on a solo trip, so I chose it for a layover for a road trip thru the Canadian Maritimes with my husband. I asked for, and got one of the recently remodeled rooms. The room was very clean, the TV channel selection was good (we got the Patriot's opening Monday night game!). While there were guests in rooms on either side of us, it was one of the quietest hotel/motel nights we've ever experienced. The grounds are very pretty, and the restaurant on the property appeared to do a brisk business, although we ate in Wolfville - just a couple of miles away. There is wired internet in the rooms, and they supply the ethernet cord.

We were very happy with our stay, and highly recommend the place.

“A little disappointed this time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

We have always been happy with our food here. Today, not so much. We arrived shortly after 1 pm and they weren't busy, so we were pleased we didn't have to wait for a table. We ordered very basic things - 1 hot dog, 1 small hamburger, and 1 large hamburger with a cup of soup of the day- homemade corn chowder. And we waited....and we waited.. and we waited. Finally my hubby's chowder arrived. As he described it 'warm milk, utterly tasteless.' The rest of the meals arrived. You know you have a problem when they make sure you have a fork and knife to eat your hamburger with. The large hamburger (4 oz) was overflowing with large slices of onions, fried in butter and very greasy. The plate was greasy and you couldn't even pick up the burger. It was eaten with a fork and knife and all you could taste was onions. For the first time, we didn't stay for dessert.

We will think twice about going back anytime soon.

“Been here for years- for a reason”

We drive down from Halifax (about an hour's drive) a few times each summer. I started eating there while I was a student boarding with a senior at Acadia University in neighbouring Wolfville. She liked to go at least once a week. And I got hooked.
The food is simple, reasonably priced, prepared onsite and consistent. Not a gourmet place- just a simple diner. The homemade scones which come with the fish chowder are wonderful. And the homemade pies are wonderful. No fries but they do make a good old-fashioned diner burger. You can sit inside or out in the screened -in area. It is usually full and locals go there which is always a good sign. It is not just for the tourists. The service is good. Drop in just to taste the pies with local seasonal fruit. My husband would drive down just for a piece of peach pie when it is in season.

“Family restaurant with old time flair”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

A wonderful place to take the family for modestly priced quality food. We had a simple meal of a large salad, served fresh and crisp, followed with the 4 oz burgers which were homemade patties, hot and juicy. The menu also offered two ounce patties at a lesser price for those looking for a lighter bite. The apple crisp was excellent and tea was served with an additional pot of water for the second cup - a nice touch.

The menu is not extensive but a well thought out cross section of dishes is offered. The restaurant is known for its chowder, burgers and desserts. Also we noticed that many people had the old style large metal cups that are used to make milkshakes on their tables, obviously another popular item. The setting is pleasant. There are a few sections to the restaurant. We sat at a corner table overlooking the back garden and the large screened windows were open to allow the breeze through.
We are definitely returning to try more of the popular dishes.
People should phone ahead to check hours and it should be noted that they are not open year round. Worth a call and a visit!!

“Big Flavor comes in small gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

This long standing restaurant in Grand Pre, Nova Scotia provides excellent food and Service. Our Server Linda, who has been with the restaurant for 25 years was exceptionally nice. We stopped for lunch after visiting the Grand Pre Museum and were delighted with the food. The fresh homemade Mushroom soup was excellent. Our friends had the Fresh Fish Soup. They indicated it was just as good. Our mains were also good. All Home Made with fresh vegetables, pickels and bread. The Pies and the Carrot Cake was to die for. Hats off to Management. And don't go by without seeing the historic site of Grand Pre. This is where in the deportation of Acadians occured.
