“A wonderful stay”

I visited Mabou in late September and had a wonderful stay at the Inn at Glendyer. It is situated only about 5 mins away (driving) from the Red Shoe Pub and was easy very to get to. The house itself was cozy and welcoming. Even though Jill, the owner, was still at work when we arrived, she had left a note for us and we were able to let ourselves into our room. We were actually upgraded to the suite with a queen bed and an adjoining room with a twin bed, which was a nice surprise. The bed was very comfortable and there was satellite TV and wireless internet available. Two of the highlights for us were the hot tub overlooking the creek that runs behind the house and Jill's phenomenal breakfast - delicious homemade bread pudding and quiche, with fruit, yogurt, granola, sausage, and orange juice - what a way to start the day! I highly recommend staying at the Inn at Glendyer if you are spending some time in Mabou!

“Steeped in pioneering history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

The 'Inn' is really a heritage house adjacent to a pretty stream that once provided power to a mill. The owner, Jill, has done a lovely job in maintaining the ambience of the place without compromising the amenities. The downstairs lounge is quite Victorian and a bit gloomy but our upstairs suite overlooking the stream was spacious, with a step-down room containing another bed, TV and sofa (which had lost a lot of its original spring!). The bathroom had a jacuzzi/shower combo that was most welcome. The grounds are worth exploring with a labyrinth on a lawn, and a hot tub overlooking the tumbling stream.

“Mabou Massage”

We spent three nights at the Inn while visiting Mabou, driving the Ceilidh and Cabot Trails. Our room was cozy and quiet, with a large bathroon. Breakfasts were delicious with eggs, fruit, scones, breakfast meats and lively conversation with the other guests. Jill was a wonderful host, when not making breakfast or tending to the rooms, she has a massage practice and I scheduled and received a great massage while there.

“Lovely setting”

The Glendyer exceeded our expectations, even after reading the sort of reviews below. Everything I can think of to say has been well said elsewhere on these pages. I would only add that if you want to maximize the musical experience, be prepared to stay up late; things around here really start happening around 10 pm.

Jill had some great advice on where to go to catch some music, as well as hiking and sightseeing in other places on Cape Breton. We spent 5 nights at the Glendyer. Every breakfast was good and a little different, and we got to meet a variety of people. The road is wide and had been recently graded, so there were no potholes.
