We picked this B&B mainly because it is "known" for its whaling research activities, in which I hoped to take part.
ABOUT THE INN:
- we got a very big room, which is very positive. However, it was a very ugly room (very bad quality furnishing, not the nice furnishing from the other rooms, very bad beds). Because our room was on the top floor, it was rather quiet. As in the morning very early, people are waked up for the morning excursions at six clock, this is quite nice when staying in a place like the village inn. Quality of towels was very bad, they looked very old which is for the price we paid unacceptable.
- breakfast (only continental is included) was not special, we could choose a bagel or some toast, and cereals. good coffee though!
- location: Trinity: excellent location to explore the bonavista region for a day or two. however, there are plenty of B&B's in the neigbourhoord.
ABOUT THE WHALE TRIP
based on the promotional material, we really expected to be staying with an expert, giving us the most opportunity to see whales and more important to learn about this. I expected to go on a trip with "doktor beamish" who "communicates" with whales, and I hoped this rythm based communcation all leaflets talk about would really mean something and enable me to see the whales from very close.
The trip was quite different from what I expected. First we got an introduction. The guide we had was nice except the part given by Dr Peter himself. He acted very crazy and thinks he is a great philosopher. He did not learn us anything about whales at all.
The trip was great fun (luckily Dr peter beamish himself did not join), especially because the boat was very "speedy" making it a real adventure. the guides were great, telling a lot about the region and for example the birds. Certainly worth to do it, however it was not a good whale trip at all. Other trips I made in NL were much more focussed on whales.... No communication or what so ever was used. We saw one whale from very far. According to the guides, this tour was a big succes and they said later back in the inn, to the people there who were also interested in taking a whale trip, we saw probably three (certainly a lie...). So a great boat tour, but whale reserach??? no, alas... a lot of lies are in the leaflets and tourist guides....
