“A String of Annoyances from Check In to Check Out”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

We stayed for two nites at this Comfort Inn location. It was so hot and humid that my glasses fogged up as soon as I walked in the place, and there is no adjusting the heat in the room either. I slept with the window wide open to make it a normal temperature. The other twelve families I traveled with said the same thing. It is a confusing maze of halls, set up quite strangely. The room was clean, bed was pretty uncomfortable and hard, with tiny lumpy pillows that have been washed WAY too many times. They still have those cheap shiny bedspreads with the itchy backing that you dont want to sleep under, yuck. I must admit I might be being a little hard on the place because I travel so much, and I have been staying at so many much nicer places that were alot cheaper, it just doesn't measure up. It was kind of expensive for the mediocre experience, but that is because of the oil boom traffic. Something that annoyed me was that when I was checking in, I waited forever, then when they got to me their card machine broke down. I told them I would come down later, they had my card information already anyway. I got to the room and was getting ready to leave for our game, when they called the room to tell me the machine was fixed and that I needed to come back down RIGHT NOW and square up. Annoyed, I went back down to wait on a longer line than the first time. Really?!
Parking is positively abysmal, with work trucks with trailers taking up two or three of the closest parking spots. The noise in the halls at night was pretty unacceptable, and combined with the heat and hard beds, just not conducive to a good nights sleep. There was nothing about this hotel that was a deal breaker alone, just a series of annoyances one after the next. There are many worse places to stay in Minot, but I'm going to the Holiday Inn Express for the same price this weekend.

“Shopping Trip-Minot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

The Comport Inn is situated close to the Mall, within walking distance and is clean and comfortable. I think the staff did an excellent job catering to our needs when thay are full of long time guests because of the flooding in the area. The staff still went out of their way to make us comfortable and to make us feel at home.
The Breakfast area is small but useful. If you get there early, there is no issue. Getting there around 8 means you will sit around the pool, which to me was quite refreshing. I went a second time with my Family and had coffee when they awoke.
Getting your shopping back to the Hotel is as easy as using a shopping cart and I made several trips for the girls.
Menards, my store, is a cab ride away or $6. Walmart is on the way, so you can spend time at either, but we had to make trips back to the Hotel to drop off our shopping.
To make a long story short, the people of Minot and all the Hotels are doing a great job of treating out of town guests the same as the residents who have suffered from the flooding tragedy. They are put up in all the Hotels, the Oil People and all the busses that come in for shopping and blended in to one as a Family. My hat goes off to the People of Minot and to all the Businesses that have gone the "Extra Mile," especially the Hotel/Motel Industry.

Room Tip: Book early..Some guests are residents who have been displaced because of the flooding. Cabs are har...

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Spent weekend at this hotel. It has a great location within walking distance of the mall and numerous restaurants,
The hotel was very clean and staff very accomodating and friendly.
Continential breakfast was also excellent.
The only negative was the small pillows but put 2 in one pillowcase and this solved the problerm.
Would not hesitate to return to this hotel.

“Now a residence for flood victims and oil workers”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

I spent the night here last night (October 26). There was no parking. I drove around the hotel and even sat and waited a while. When I went back inside they said it was because they have the majority of their rooms filled with people who are on vouchers until next year because they lost their homes in the flood. The folks who wrote that there is ample parking must mean the Applebees parking that as I look out my window now at 5 AM is fill with hotel patron's cars. There is a a shopping mall behind Applebees where some guest must park if they don't want to go ut after 10 when Applebees closes to move their car to that closer parking lot. Now the room...the carpets seriously need steam cleaning. They are filthy.Vacuuming doesn't do it any more. I was checking to make sure the connecting door was locked and the handle came off in my hand. The small sink drains so slowly, I had to keep waiting for the water to drain out before I could continue to use it. The walls are extremely thin and I could hear the full conversation of the lady in the room next to me plus the people above me sounded like they were stomping back and forth to the bathroom. I'm sure they weren't stomping but the soundproofing is so bad it almost amplfies the sound...........okay what was good.....the only thing I found good was that the front desk clerk who seemed to be in charge was trying her best to find parking to the extent that she went out to the end of Applebees parking lot and called back to the office on a walkie talking to tell the other clerk where she found a space fo me...The obviously do not pay her enough to handle all the complaints....I guess the other good thing is they have an indoor pool and spa that the residents seem to enjoy. If you are visiting friends or family in Minot, this may be okay if the pool is a big draw.....if you are on business...forget it...but also good luck finding a room in Minot. Most are taken up by families with long term vouchers and rooms booked up by the oil company...my advise...book far in advance with a more upgraded hotel. Also ...beware of glowing reviews as many are written by the hotels!

Room Tip: Only take a room on top floor. If you are on Applebees side you hear everything in the parking lot b...

“Family wedding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

I stayed at the Comfort Inn in July 2011, during the height of the flooding of the Souris River. City water was not potable, but every day, bottled water was placed in my room for drinking. In spite of the hardship, the breakfast buffet was plentiful, the king bedroom was spacious, and the desk people were courteous and competent. Convenient to dining and shopping.
The price of the room was high (over $100 per night), but that's the law of supply and demand. Over all a good stay. I'd stay there again.
