“Don't eat there and everything is fine!”

This hotel is located in northern part of Golden Sands in quite area, near the center and only 50 meters from the beach. Lilia hotel is very clean, in good condition and if you have sea view room, insist on higher flat if possible. The walls between rooms are very tiny and if you are of bad luck to have Russians as neighbors, it becomes a big trouble during the nights. Hotel stuff is very helpful and friendly. One advice, the stuff in restaurant works the whole day, every day and they are not our slaves, so give them some courage with your smiles, they like it and they are the brightest part of story about the restaurant. Simply, the food there is awful and don't forget-everything you eat in hotel Lilia is at your own risk! Even Serbian and Bulgarian cuisines are very similar, we couldn't recognize many dishes. The worst of all, we had several situations to take food with very suspicious smell, color or taste. Once, our roasted chicken breast was spoiled with terrible stink, in another situation, for example, the ham had sour smell and brownish color and the main restaurant chef told us it's probably natural!!! But, you should see her face when smelled it. Really, for 9 days, going to restaurant was a kind of stress and naturally, we had gastric problems a few days.

Room Tip: higher floors have better look

“a welcoming and clean hotel”

We spent 6 days in hotel Lilia and was just like we wanted: clean, staff very nice, quiet, close to the beach. We recommend this hotel; master chef Stephan was in the restaurant every day: morning, noon and evening to see if people are satisfied with the food served, many times I've caught as he served the guests. The food was great. Although the package is all inclusive light, I felt no difference.
the pool was a little too quiet because they do not have music, but is not a minus, you get used:)
Parking is really free.
Nothing spectacular, you can see that the hotel is refurbished, but much more clean than many others that are new and worth every penny. You could say quality vs price.

Room Tip: Spacious rooms, clean sheets and towels changed every day. Shower is pretty small, but ok.

“Good, but more of an all-exclusive plan”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

We stayed at this hotel at the end of August, and had the All-Inclusive program.

Location: The hotel is very nicely located: a few seconds from the beach and about 15 minutes to the center of the station.

Rooms: We had a double room + extra bed, with view on the street. The room was of an average size. It had a mini-bar, small television, and air conditioning. The bathroom was also an average size, with a shower. The hotel didn't offer soaps, bottles of shampoo or anything: there was just a distributor with "Hand Soap & Shower Gel & Shampoo". We had a view on another hotel, which was a little noisy at night, but not too disturbing. The carpet was old and stained. Towels changed daily.

Staff: Friendly enough. A few were very nice, and some were kind of incompetent. But there are ups and downs with the staff in every hotel! The staff speaks mostly german and russian, and they understand relatively good english, compared to other hotels.

Animation: None.

Swimming Pool: An average size for the resort. About 40 meters length. There is a small section for kids that was 70 cm deep, and for the rest of the pool, it varied from 1.40 meters to 1.50 meters. There was always a life-guard near the pool, and people with the all-inclusive program could stay on the sun chairs with parasols. However, the pool hasn't been built in the smartest position: it was covered in shade by 4:30 pm. The temperature was warm between 12:00 and 3:00. The pool was opened from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. There is also a swimming pool on the roof, which I will detail in the "Facilities"

There is a bar by the pool, but for the all-inclusive program, we had access to drinks, but the food and other alcoholic drinks/coktails were not free. The people who stayed for bed and breakfest had to pay for everything. There is a very nice pool that doesn't belong to the hotel just in front with clearer water, much bigger, and about only 1 meter deep.

Beach & Sea: The beach was sandy and the sea was pretty warm (if there were 30 degrees outside, there were 26 in the water). It gets deep pretty fast, so it's not very practical for couples with children. There were no sunchairs offered by the hotel on the beach. We had to pay 4 euro/sunchair, 4 euro/parasol, and 1,5 euro/matress. At the LTI Berlin Hotel, they offered free sunchairs and parasols (for the people from the hotel)... The sea, however, seemed to be the best in the Lilia Hotel area: less weeds and no rocks. There were other places with many, many sea weeds.

Restaurant & Food: The All-Inclusive prgram is "light", which means that they only served 3 meals and drinks in the lobby bar and the pool bar. The breakfeast was good/okay, with sausages, eggs, pancakes, cakes, and Fornetti Franchise products. At lunch and dinner, there were a few meals offered and ALWAYS REPEATED! They never really changed the meals. It was... not really tasty or good. And their soup was actually envelopes that they dipped in hot water. It's not worth the price. If you go at this hotel, you should only take "Bed and Breakfeast", for the food at lunch and dinner was really disappointing.

Facilities: There is a nice swimming pool on the roof, but that wasn't free for anyone: it cost 5 euros per entry to go in that pool. It's just a plain swimming pool. They say it has a beautiful view on the sea, but the walls are so high, you can barely see the sea standing up! There is a fitness center, not included. Massage, not included. There was a small clothing shop at the hotel. There is also a "day-care" for young kids from 4:30 pm to 10:30 pm. I'm not sure if it was included in the all-inclusive program or not. Free wi-fi at the lobby, but needed to pay to go on the only computer available and for wi-fi in the room.

In conclusion, I would recommend this hotel only for bed and breakfest, beacause the all-inclusive program is more of an all-exclusive plan. The location is perfect, the sea is the nicest in front of the hotel, and it's pretty quiet. Not a four-star hotel, more of a three-star hotel.

“Clean Rooms and Friendly Staff but not a 4*”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

We stayed in the Lilia Hotel for 2 weeks in August this year, there were 14 of us in total, 7 couple ranging in ages between 25-50.

The hotel is a 30 minute transfer from Varna airport, we arrived at around 1am in the morning and we were quickly checked in to our rooms by friendly reception staff. Although we had all booked the same room types the rooms in our group differed dramatically, some of our group getting large rooms with separate lounges, two bathrooms and large balconies while others got standard double rooms. The rooms were clean when we arrived and kept clean throughout our stay although all rooms had carpets which were quite heavily stained, cream carpets being an odd choice for a beach resort.

The hotel and the resort generally is heavily geared to the German tourists and therefore the hotel food and many of the restaurants in the resort cater for the Germans. You can find some restaurants that offer “Traditional Bulgarian Food” but they are all very similar and I doubt how traditional the food they offer is.

We only stayed B&B and the food was very average, the breakfasts were mass produced canteen food and offered the same choices ever day. We simply saw it as fuel to keep us going until lunch time. We did not eat any other meals in the hotel so cannot comment on lunches and dinner but would advise against going all inclusive from a social point of view as I don’t remember seeing a single person drinking at the hotel bar.

The hotel is literally a 30 second walk from the beach, the bars around the beach are good and the staff all very friendly. You will be paying £15 a day for two sun-beds on the beach and this is the same throughout the resort. You’ll also need plenty of change on you as you’ll have to pay about 50p every time you use any toilet other than the one in your room.

Nightlife wise the hotel is at the quieter end of the resort, there are still lots of bars and restaurants but it all gets quiet at around midnight, but the busier end of the resort is only a 10 minute walk away.

The hotel has two pools, one of which is on the roof but costs around £5 per person per day to use. The gym isn’t up to much and consists of a bench, a few random dumbbells and an old treadmill, this is also chargeable.

We were advised not to use the booths to change money but did and had no problems. As long as you get the exchange rate confirmed before handing over any money, some were offering stupidly low rates. It is definitely better to change your money out there as the rates you will get are much better.

Overall the hotel was ok, the room was clean and spacious and the staff were all very friendly. The food was not good and it is by no means a 4 star. It was 30+ degrees for 13 out of our 14 days with one day of rain and the beer is never more than a £1.50 a pint but I wouldn’t be in any rush to go back.

Room Tip: Keep the doors onto your balcony shut at night unless you like big insects.

“Loved it, staff very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble.”

We arrived early hours in a group of 14. we were told straight away about the mix up with a room and if we were happy to accept another room for the night, things would be sorted next day. They kept to their word and moved us next morning. My partner and I decided we wanted to change to a sea view for our second half of our stay and were moved as soon as one became available. The staff were very pleasant and friendly nothing was too much trouble, if I were to return to Golden Sands I'd definitely come back to this hotel. Also, more or less straight opposite to the right slightly, is a wonderful traditional Bulgarian Cuisine restaurant. This we highly recommended having traipsed up and down the strip eating 'OK' meals we decided to give it a go one night and from then on returned every evening for the next 5 nights each of of going through the menu!! You couldn't choose a wrong meal!!!! Have fun and enjoy your stay at Hotel Lilia.

Room Tip: Back of hotel view looks on to road and back of another hotel, can be slightly noisy with coaches tu...
